Sucker Punched

Four and a half more days.  I'm not keeping track.  Just keeping you informed.

So . . . two things.  Maybe three.

Number One:  Nothing is going on with my table.  NOTHING.  It's still just sitting there.  I haven't tried any of the solutions offered because that would require going to the store.

I have some Clorox wipes here, and some at school, but that's about it in the way of my cleaning supplies.

Don't judge.

And don't drop by unexpectedly, either.

I plan on trying all of those solutions, solvents, suggestions next week.  When things are not as busy.  I also plan on showing it to our custodian if I can't get it out.  As for now, I cover it up with piles of paperwork so he's none the wiser.

Number Two:  I wanted to do the last giveaway for Learning Resources this week.  It's big.  It's a DOCUMENT CAMERA.

At least it's big to me.  I mean, I just got my ladybug a couple of months ago and it's changed my life.  And now I have ANOTHER one????  Except this one is turbo charged????  Are you kidding me?  Am I dreaming and I work at a school that is from the future now?

The problem is that as soon as I hooked it up, my computer wanted Adminstrative Approval.  It's always asking for Administrative Approval.  You'd think I was trying to look at blogs during the day or something.

I don't have Administrative Approval.  I'm not even sure my administrator does.  It's all district this and that, and don't touch, and leave it alone, and just be bare bones, and that's all.  In other words, I can use Word.  On a good day, I can use the internet.

I'm working on getting some approval from somebody somewhere.  And if that doesn't work, I'm not above hiring a hacker.  Any recommendations?

Number Three - On my way back from dismissal, I was sucker punched in the gut.

Yep.

I was walking up the big, wide, more-than-enough-room walkway, minding my own business, and this upper grade girl came up alongside me (on my right side) and she took her entire left arm and reared back and let it fly.  Into my stomach.  HARD.

And since I wasn't prepared, I wasn't able to flex my rock-hard-six-pack abs, which then would have caused her arm to break in half, so I guess in the long run, it's good I was caught off guard.  (I have no idea if that sentence is gramatically correct or not, and I don't care.)

I doubled over a little, but I won't exaggerate this time.  I did not get the wind knocked out of me.  But, people, it hurt.  And it wasn't an accident.  Not like that time I hit a friend of mine because I was talking with my hands.  Or that other time I hit another friend because I was talking with my hands.  This was ON PURPOSE.  And she was bigger than me.  Don't laugh.  She was.  It's a fact.

I said, "Hey!" really loud.

And then she turned around.

And it was a super sweet student with special needs.  She is a doll.  She is in third grade now and all of her teachers love her.  I'm not sure if she was giving me a love tap or what.  I honestly don't know.

So I said, "Hey!" a little bit softer.

"What?" she said.

"You hit me," I told her.

"So?"

Wait.  What?  So?  SO?  SOOOOOOOO??????????????

I said, "Did you just say 'so'?"

"Yeah."

"You're supposed to say 'I'm sorry'!!" I cried.

"Sorry."

And she stalked off.

But she wasn't sorry.  I know these things.

I'm adding this to my list of injuries in case you're taking notes.

  1. I feel your pain with the computer! I can't even add a stinking' font to mine (and there are soooo many cute ones out there!) a couple of teachers have even brought in their personal laptops and use paid wireless services just to get to usable websites (and stay away from the technology police!

At least she didn't say, "But I'm NOT sorry."
I get that from time to time.

    We still have 13 days.
Too few and too many at the same time!

Do you know at this very minute you have 1500 followers?

So sorry Hallmark doesn't have a card for that celebration either. But I'll do the wave (solo) in your direction for a cheer.
Did you see that? It was fast, so I'll do it again before I sign off...

  7. I hate the computer nazi's that decide what you can and cant access. There was a big scuffle last year because they were supposed to allow your access to be more flexible if you were logged in as a teacher, but I haven't seen much of an improvement. No YouTube or other helpful websites. I used to not be able to access blogs, but I guess that's one thing that changed. Other teachers have figured out ways to access blocked sites, like facebook by typing in https intead of just http. I'm not sure why they block certain sites for teachers. I guess they think I'll waste time on the whole 40 minute break I get a day because I clearly don't have better things to do!
I hope your stomach doesn't hurt! That's crazy, but the special needs part made it a little better. I'm glad it wasn't some older kid with a vendetta for you!

  9. Okay, try this. I can't promise anything, but sometimes it works for me. When my computer asks for Administrative Approval I type in my computer username and password. It works! Try it.

  10. One of our third grade special needs students did that to the speech teacher yesterday in an attempt to get sent home (didn't work!). Sorry for your pain. Now you will flinch going down the hall!

  14. Can you ask for hazard pay? :-)

I can't get in on the giveaway because my classroom computer is a '97 Dell. We have Wifi about 50% of the time. On those days, we work on Starfall and Johnnie's Math Page. I will be praying for a new(er) computer over my summer vaca.

You are almost finished!!!!!!! Hang in!

  16. I hope you are not still in pain.

I have one more day and it is a half day!!!!

Adminstrative approval sucks! I tried to watch the "I have a Dream" speach, and of course I could only find it on YouTube (it was a last minute idea). Only to find out YouTube is a blocked site.

  19. Ouch!! I got cold conked by one of my kinders today. We were doing Dr. Jean's letter aerobics when a little boy (and by that I mean the smallest boy) in my class and I knocked heads. I know it must have hurt him because I think I blacked out for a second. He never cried...brave soul...I sent him to the nurse (with his best friend), and I kept on dancing with the rest of class. But not to say sorry!! Are students getting ruder and less respectful or am I just getting to old?

  20. So excited about the turbo charged doc cam giveaway. Everytime I read your blog... I laugh. I have always wondered why we have internet if all we get is ACCESS DENIED. Enjoy your summer. I still have 13 days;)

  21. Sorry you got punched - at least it wasn't by some upper grade kid who decided he has it out for Teeny Tiny Teachers! If you have to show your custodian is he going to be mad? Is it possible to get another table from your district's warehouse? Our warehouse apparently had untold treasures, but I wouldn't know because I don't have access lol. Good luck on getting your doc camera installed - in our district it takes an Act of Congress and 3-6 months to get anything installed!

  23. The dreaded administer approval needed! I think I might do a full blog post on this, since I frequently find that I have no power of the machine in my room! Our computer tech travels to 3 schools, so I only see her if it is raining, tadpoles are changing to frogs and a rainbow's end is in our field and the pot of gold is waiting for me to revel in it's golden goodness! Hence, I hardly see her so... well you know my pain. Your posts will get me through the last 7 days!

  24. For any problem we have with any piece of technology we have to "fill out a ticket" {on the computer, mind you, which is usually the culprit in the first place, which means I have to use somebody ELSE'S computer to fill out the dreaded "ticket"}.

Hope you have a great Memorial Day Weekend! :)
