Hey peeps! Happy Sunday to all of you. ๐
I am doing great, despite the dissolving stitches in my mouth. I am not in any pain. Occasionally, I make a face (I am famous for this) and the expression sends a twinge of ouchness through my mouth. Other than that, I am surprisingly fine. Some of your horror stories have made me feel really blessed — and let’s just say that due to some insurance issues, I will not be having a gum graft until at least January of next year. That’s far off, people. That’s so far away I will not need to start worrying about that until at least Halloween. Okay, maybe Labor Day, but as for now, I am worry free.
Almost.
I did something.
And I’m a tad bit worried about it.
You may have noticed from the title of this post.
Or the little new green and blue owl on my left hand sidebar.
I was trying to be subtle.
But I don’t think it worked.
I did it.
I made a product for TpT. And I didn’t use DJ Inkers. I know. I think there was a moment when time stood still. But then it started back up again. Right around the time that I found some super cute clipart from Digi Web Studios. And Print Candee.
I also have to say that the original idea came from my friend, Christina. Who does not blog. But she claims to be my number one fan. ๐ She is a good friend and helped me grow so much as a teacher when we were working together. Thank you, Christina, for allowing me to recreate this!
It’s an All About Me book. Our team sends it home the second week of school for homework in a gallon ziplock bag. It’s due two weeks later. This allows us time to talk to the parents at Parent Information Night (the most dreaded night of the entire year for me) about ACTUAL homework expectations and the VERY- EXPENSIVE-homework-folders-that-I-spent-my-own-money-on-so-please-do-not-lose-it-or-spill-syrup-on-it-or-use-it-as-a-dish-rag-or-throw-up-on-it-because-you-will-not-get-another-one and all that. We send this home before the “real” homework starts.
When the pages come back in, I have a parent volunteer glue them to construction paper, laminate them for me, and then bind them with a spiral comb or a ribbon.
I allow a few students each day some time to share their book. They can hardly contain themselves when it’s their turn. Every year. It’s the same thing.
After all students have shared, I put them in a center. I learned this the hard way. The first year, I just threw them in a basket and put them in the classroom library. Let’s just say that I was stupid a new teacher. I am warning you — every single one of your kids will end up in the library as soon as you put the basket in there. And there won’t be room for every single one of your kids, especially if you teach at my school and you have the happy-happy-joy-joy of thirty-two first graders on your list. So there might be some pushing. Or shoving. Or hair pulling. And maybe the book shelf might tip over. I don’t know. I’m not saying that happened to me. I’m just saying this hypothetically. As a heads up. You never know.
NOW, (after a terrible experience learning from my teammates) I move the basket of books to the classroom library once all students have had a chance to be in the All About Me Book Center. You might still have a couple of incidents (He won’t let me read my book! I can’t find my book! One of my pages fell out and it’s her fault! He’s hogging all the boy books!), but it will be less dangerous.
I return the books at the end of the year and then I am inevitably the best teacher ever in all the world.
So.
I’m not giving it away. For the first time ever.
After several peer pressure conversations encouraging and supportive words from family and friends, I thought I’d try to sell this as my first TpT item.
If you’d like to purchase it, you can click {HERE}.
I have to go lay down now. This whole TpT experience has taken a toll on my mental psyche. Much like the Real Housewives drama. Or a periodontist consultation gone awry. Or finding the bottom of the Chocolate Malted Crunch icecream container empty. I also think I owe Hadar a candy bar. Or a drink. Or some money. She was so helpful and kept saying that I wasn’t bugging her or bothering her, but I was. I mean, who sends the same thing fourteen times with minor changes each time? Me. So, thank you, Hadar!
Love the graphics!! I hope you're feeling brand new soon!

LOVE the idea of the "All About Me" book as homework. LOVE the idea of waiting until open house to discuss routines and expectations face to face with parents. LOVE the idea of using the book at a later point in a station.
Great ideas!

Finally in First
The vampire thing – so totally understand. Don't know what I'm going to do when school starts. I've never heard of TpT but am going to check it out. I did look at your All About Me booklet and think it's great! I plan on buying it – $2.00 is quite reasonable! I've been a Teacher's Aide in a classroom for the past two years but this year I will be the one in charge and need all the help I can get! Glad you are feeling better!
What I love about your article is that it is unique and loaded with substance which really captivates me. Some of the blogs today are not very informative and that is why site visitors will not read the full post. But yours was different. I'd like to thank my friend also for referring your blog to me. Hope to see more of this. Keep it up!
