Hey peeps! How was your day? Mine was okay. I am in the middle of assessments and, aside from the fact that I am drowning in them, all is well.
But we did get all of our recesses today so that was a nice change.
And I learned a new answer to the question, “Are you okay?”
I said that to one of my sweet little boogers because he looked a little . . . out of sorts. His toothy grin was missing. His spiky hair was a little droopy. He wooked downwight sad. (By the way, this particular booger would never say that he was tho thad. Nope. He would say, “I’m wight as wain!”)
I said, “Are you okay?”
And he replied, “Well, we’re getting a new couch tomorrow. And it’s going to have a recwiner! And it makes a bed!”
“Oh,” I said. “Cool! Neat! Wow! But are you okay?”
And he replied, “We’re getting a new couch tomorrow.”
So there you have it. The next time someone asks if I’m okay, I’m going to say that I am getting a new couch tomorrow. Whether I am or not.

Hey Kristin,
I think its super important to take hooky days – we get given sick days…why not use it for mental health?

Don't tell, but I am playing hooky on Monday ๐ My daughter's daycare is closed and I have big plans for the zoo, but I'm sure I'll just end up staying at home in yoga pants and my hair in a ponytail ๐
I definitely need to check out those books- they sound so cute!!

Well I could really use a hooky day but, we have a long weekend coming up for our Thanksgiving and that will be divine ! And we have a PA day Friday to kick it all off and it is not a curriculum/ training /TLCP or PLC but it is a Faith Day with a liturgical celebration and guest speaker from Ireland, LOVE Irish accents. I need the 4 day break, my kiddies are zapping the life from me, precious but soooo needy.

Haha, I LOVE the "new couch" answer! And I need to check out this Scaredy Squirrel book.

Love the couch comment, Hee Hee. I told my munchkins no painting if I had to erase the check marks on the board, I heard one kid whisper, "for heavens sake be quiet". This was directed at the jabber jaws section of our room. It was silent, painting was had by all.

lol…I love kid comments! They are always so random, and make us think too much, trying to figure out what it has to do with what we originally asked.
My favourite kid comment lately was actually in a letter I got from one of my kiddies from last year. I sent out Thank You cards in July, and got several "thank you for the thank you card" replies back. One of my darlings told me all about his summer, and then ended with "P.S. Keep in touch." lol…his new class (Gr. 6) this year is two doors down from me…and being a small school, I see him all the time. But it was a sweet thought. ๐

Gonna be laughing about that dang couch for days! What the Thor does THAT mean?! hahahahahaha

Gonna have to try the Skinny Cow candy bar thingy. I need a hooky day too. Honestly, everyone keeps talking about their fall breaks. What is that? Ughhh… no such thing here.

Hmmm, new couch, new car, and playing hooky… That all sounds great to me. We call them 'mental health days'. Sounds more professional…. And we all know it's way better for the kiddos when we take a break from their sweet faces now and then. I'm curious about the assessments you are required to do….that's one of the battles in Ontario right now, whether school boards should be able to mandate which assessments are done and when. Good luck finishing!

I absolutely love Scaredy Squirrel. We have a trial for Bookflix on Scholastic and it is one of the books featured. The squirrel on there has the perfect voice for Scaredy Squirrel. We have had to watch it many times over the last few weeks.

I'm more "RHNJ" reunion right now than anything MTV….aiee Theresa is a trainwreck…
LOVE the Special K cinnamon crisps, haven't tried the Skinny Cow yet!
Assessments…I'm on a self-imposed 6 target system (3 math, 3 reading) 9-stage goal for each target (3 per trimester) which is kind of kicking my fanny, but equally AWESOME…I really know where my rosebuds and stinkweeds are, and they LOVE hitting a goal!
I have a nice class this year so I have TIME to assess. Last year I pretty much played "whack-a-mole" with an issue/interruption EVERY minute…LOVING actually "teaching" again!
Couch…dogs and boys have defiled ours…need a new one. Will be my new line if asked how I "am".:)
Car…new car in June when son gets his license and inherits MY car! ๐
Excited to use your daily worksheets I purchased a few days ago! WHOOHOO!!!!

The couch story is just hilarious! I love the challenges too-I usually don't admit that in public, but….I don't recognize 1/2 the people anymore, but the other half I still remember from their shows. Love your blog!

I found Scaredy Squirrel this year via a blog who did it for the first day in 3rd (sorry, can't remember). I loved, loved, loved it.
My students thought it was funny, but we watched it about 5-10min. prior to lunch and they were starvin' marvins!

I love your stories!!
I've tried Skinny Cow ice cream and it's pretty good but not the candy. I went right to a bag of Reese's pumpkins already, which is not good, so I skipped the candy aisle this week and stuck with fruit instead (woohoo) but maybe I will try this to make myself feel better!

Give Me My BONE!
Last year, in the computer lab I found a teeny tiny bone sitting by a computer. (It was plastic. Who knows what it was from…) I just HAD to take it. This is one of our favorite books!
The only problem with it is when a child is reading to self during our workshop time they just have to yell that part out. Everyone turns their heads a yells, "Give Me My BONE!" Love it!

Just watched the RHONY reunion…are you watching now? They are definitely not a happy little community, but they are more content than the RHONJ crew. Yikes, that was a painful show!
