Happy Merry The Day After Christmas I Ate Way Too Much How About You? ๐
I feel a little sad that Christmas is over and that it’s not exactly appropriate to listen to Christmas music anymore. I mean, we just put the Christmas tree up and we just got the lights on the house . . . so it stands to reason that keeping it all up and listening to Christmas music until mid February January or so is perfectly acceptable.
So technically, Kacey isn’t having a Five for Friday link up, but I am.
This pretty much sums up my first week of Christmas break. It was very very very relaxing and there were a couple of days where I hardly left the house!
Amazon is my friend, people. It’s practically the only way I shop now.
In my defense, I was also sick and trying to get rid of whatever it was by not doing much of anything.
It sort of worked.
We spent Christmas Eve with Steve’s family (like always) and had our traditional Mexican feast after church. This is us trying to figure out the selfie stick.
Um, yeah.
We were all new to the selfie stick, just in case you can’t tell.
Once we got the hang of it, we had way too much fun with it, let me tell you. I will spare you those pictures.
My niece, Madison, got the Butter Box this year.
Yes, the Butter Box.
This has become a tradition in my family because, for years, my mom would wrap presents in all sorts of boxes (sometimes a box that used to hold crackers or a box that used to hold cereal, etc) and at least one of us would get some small trinket or ornament or gift card wrapped in a butter box.
So the butter box became a kind of joke in my family.
And then my mom turned it into a game of chance and now, if you’re lucky enough to receive the butter box, it has $25 cash in it. The winner pulls a new name from the list of family members around Thanksgiving time each year.
My mom usually disguises the butter box by putting it inside of another box so we’re never sure who has it. I’m telling you — it is loads of fun.
We’re the type of family who takes turns unwrapping presents. We do not do the whole “free for all” thing. We always start with the youngest in the family and then go around one person at a time until the oldest person unwraps a gift, and then we start the process all over again until we’re all done. This makes the unwrapping of presents last longer (which I’m obviously a fan of) and you get to see what everyone received, and if they liked what you gave them, etc etc etc.
So the new tradition is asking where is the butter box? Who has the butter box? over and over again while we take turns unwrapping our presents.
Like I said — we know how to party at my mom’s house. I bet you’re wishing you had a Butter Box tradition.

I got Kerry (and me) this fun little necklace for Christmas (minus the chain which is as cheap as the hills and I was prompt in telling her to use a different chain because I didn’t buy her a chain because, well, I didn’t). One heart is in California (me) and the other heart is in Texas (her) and they’re linked.
Let’s all say it together: AWWWWWW.
But because we believe in being honest in my family, everyone decided it looked like her heart was in Arkansas or possibly Louisiana.
I guess it’s a good thing I stayed under budget on this gift.
๐
I don’t have a fifth picture.
That’s how exciting my life is at the moment.
I’m at my mom’s, drinking coffee, still in my pjs and the robe Steve got me, and chit chatting with Kerry.
Life is pretty darn perfect right about now, if you ask me.
Oh, Christmas vacation, I love you.

We also start with the youngest but they open all their gifts…. end up taking them into another room and play with them while the teens and adults open. I love the butter box.
This year the teen grandson said, "I wonder how many Amazon boxes are under the tree?" So we had a guessing contest. He guessed 10 and he won!!! He got to take an extra nutroll home and he was thrilled!
Merry Christmas and I hope we all have a Wonderful New Year!!

I didn't get out of bed until noon today. I didn't get dressed until 3 to leave the house. I love vacations.

We unwrap our presents one at a time, too! It makes for such a fun and meaningful time to ooh and aah over each person's gift. Thanks for sharing!! Your mom sounds like an awesome person to have thought of the butter box.

We don't have a butter box, but my brothers did kind of have a butterbox experience this Christmas. My aunt gave two of my brothers wrapped boxes. They opened them up and read the box, which said, "Electronic Light Timer." They were very excited and began telling each other all about their plans, which included leaving the Scentsy plugged into the timer so when they got home, the house would smell very nice. She looked at them like they were speaking a foreign language and told them to open the boxes. And they did open the boxes, and saw that she'd given them t-shirts. Which they were also very excited about. Anyway, it wasn't a butter box, but it was close.
