So I shoulda, coulda, woulda . . . but I didn’t.
Nope.
I didn’t.
Instead of blogging YESTERDAY about Election Day and what I wanted to do with my class . . . I went to my mom’s for dinner.
We spent part of the evening talking about the fact that she uses a tablecloth when I come over because I’m so fancy (if you didn’t know) and the other part was spent on the Sydney story which made her and my older sister (the mother of Ashley) crack up (as in TEARS which is always my goal) because most of my stories sound better in real life. That way, I can act it out and use facial expressions which I prefer to do.
We also ate.
My mom made a new dish called Enchilada Casserole or some such thing.
It turned out to be more of a Chili Queso Velvetta dip so we just got out the chips and scooped it up that way. We go with the flow, my family.
Then I got in trouble for being on my smart phone.
I’ve tried and tried to tell them how important all of you are to me, but when I say, “You know — Miss Kindergarten!”, they say they don’t know.
I think they’re tuning me out . . .
So now I’m going to talk about what I did for Election Day TODAY (not much) and it’s only helpful to you if (a) you want to copy one of my ideas that I copied from someone else or (b) you want to do this tomorrow as a Post Presidential Election Day thing.
Your choice.
Or . . . you could put it away and get it back out in 4 years.
Anywho, I didn’t have a lot of time to talk about Election Day what with a new student and Centers and 3D Shapes (Harry Kindergarten!) and recess and the obligatory nap.
Yep. New student. I was a little worried because if you were reading my blog last year, you may remember that NEW BOY from last year needed an attitude adjustment and we didn’t get along for quite awhile he took longer than necessary to adjust to my expectations
So . . . it was completely normal that my tummy hurt this morning and I felt like I might cry.
But NEW GIRL is tiny, quiet, speaks a little bit of English, but not often, and smiles the whole livelong day.
Insert Opera Singer: Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllleluuuuuuuuujah!!!!
Alright.
Election Day.
I used bits and pieces and amazing stuff from Gladys in Teaching in High Heels. Check it out {HERE}.

My 2nd graders have started whistling. Big trouble!

Uggghhh..on the whistling part! Thanks for the shout out…you're too sweet! ๐

Whistling totally pushes me over the edge! My standard, try-not-to-sound-too grumpy catch phrase is…please practice your whistling outside…away from me…when I don't have recess duty. So glad to hear of another fun-loving person like yourself who hates the sound of whistling.

oh. my. GOSH. I'm so glad someone else can't stand whistling like me! I had a roommate in college (loved her to pieces….) but she whistled all the live long' day- and it wasn't ever a tune- just whistling, to nothing! Drove me NUTS the 2 years we lived together! Gladys is the best! And I love your posts, Kristin! I can imagine you tell quite the story in person! ๐

Kristin,
I WILL use the duck video tomorrow!!! Thank you! I asked to borrow the book from our library, but it just came in today AFTER my kinders had left. So I read the book to my firsties and felt so quilty that I vowed I would read it to my kinders tomorrow. They are going to LOVE the video.

P.S. Call me crazy, but I really like whistling. Have you listened to the theme song for the oldie, but goodie Andy Griffith Show? I LOVE it! Maybe because I cannot whistle at all and am so jealous of all that can.

Why are my comments always so long? Hmmm … next time I will write a one word comment I think.

You can get utube?! I tried to show my kids the "I Have a Dream" speech and could not find one that was not on utube. We were not able to watch it.
Glad your new student stays the dream she was today!!!

Ooo- that election packet looks great. I bought a different one on TPT. The kids loved learning about it! I hate whistling too & I have a group of whistlers this year- girls & boys. Yikes! Enjoy having youtube!! I see lots of cool stuff I'd like to use there. Carol

I don't allow them to whistle because I never learned how!! Isn't that awful? A grown up who can whistle ….

Whistling is the worst. It's so irritating!

I agree that whistling is annoying – especially when I am out in a store! In my classroom, I can at least ask them to stop.

Totally jealous that you can access youtube. You get all the cool stuff! ๐ haha
Whistling drives me nuts and so does humming… ESPECIALLY when I can't figure out who is doing the humming! Also, I'm a horrible whistler and don't like it very much that 6 year olds can whistle better than me!
I've been out of the bloggy loop for a couple days. I had to catch up with all your hilarity. Sydney's story was so funny!
