So hello. It’s October.
And here’s how I know. I look at Instagram and see beautiful pictures of fall leaves, and scarves, and boots, and pumpkin spice lattes. I want to be in these pictures, I want to be the girls in the boots drinking the pumpkin spice lattes, I want to be the girls in these pictures with their heads down in a just so manner, their curls in their hair just so, and their ankles crossed just so while they stand all leisurely like.
I want it badly.
But instead, I’m sweating in 95 degree heat, I am teaching all the livelong day, giving District Assessments that make me want to pull my hair out (forget the curls being just so), attending all day Leadership Trainings that make me feel inadequate and just plain stupid, getting things ready for a new student, going to two assemblies IN ONE WEEK, prepping for parent conferences, doing report cards and, oh, yeah . . . TEACHING.
And, when I’m not doing all of that, I’m trying to have a LIFE. You know. With people. And TV. And a good book. AND FOOD. And WINE. And SLEEP.
So yep.
That’s how I know it’s really October.
Added to my To Do List are First Trimester Awards.
We give out eight. All for a variety of different skills and this and that, but we give out EIGHT. And figuring out who gets an award for what is AGONIZING.
Don’t even get me started.
I can’t.
I just can’t.
I’m of the mind that I want every single student to be recognized.
That’s just me.
Call me a softie because I am.
Soft and squishy.
So any who . . . after I agonize and figure out who to give the awards to, I have to let the parents know.
And, thanks to Melonheadz Illustrating and Vista Print, I’ve got that part DOWN PAT. And UP POLLY. (I just made that last part up.)
These notices to the parents just make me so happy!
And my stamp from Vista Print . . . well, it’s the BEST THING EVER! It has saved me a TON OF TIME.
And that Crayola marker? Well, I’m just a fan. I know the majority of teachers really like flair pens. But I’m a Crayola marker fan. I don’t know. I just am. I think it’s because I can write a lot with a Crayola marker without my hand starting to hurt. Like I said, I don’t know.
Anyways . . . while I drown in the month of October, please use this EDITABLE parent notice if you can.
Click {HERE} or on the picture below to grab it.
So while all of those other people frolic in the leaves and drink hot cocoa and do all of those fall things just so, I’ll be here sweating through the demands of October.
It’s fine.
IT IS.
I am blessed.
Seriously. As Grandpa in the movie Return to Me (one of my Top Five Fave Movies of All Time), “I am blessed with work.”

Oh no! I feel your stress all the way over here. I HATE report card time. I don’t feel like we have had the chance to see if they can learn what they need…assess, assess, assess. And oh my, they are FIVE! But on a positive note, we have had only upper 80’s and that is like a breath of fresh air! So I did drink my pumpkin coffee, but it was in the car, on the way to school, so I could have energy to deal with the day. Just think, we are a quarter of the way done!

Exactly! I don’t feel like I know my kids well enough at this point! But we’ll do this! We’ve got this! 🙂

I’ve got to know….how many Gr. 1 classes in your school? Is this child #31? What the heck!!!!
We’re about to start new report cards with new assessment achievement levels for new ‘competencies’, and to make it even worse, all of the regular teachers have no idea what these mean. Sometimes it seems it’s meant to make us look incompetent!
Good luck girl….at least you have heat. It’s going to snow about 10 cm (4 inches) here tonight.

We have four first grade classes. And my new little guy is number 30 because another little boy moved. Heaven forbid I have numbers in the 20s, right? Your new competencies hurts my head!! Enjoy your snow!!

I feel ya! We had conferences this week, and I had 7 of them on Monday with no voice, a really sore throat, and was probably running a fever. There is SO much on our plates as teachers! Hang in there!

Oh wow!! I hope you feel better!

I wish I was sweating with you. I woke up today with this stinkin’ pile of snow. We skipped fall and went right to winter, and my winter boots ( by the by, where are my winter boots any way?…..just put them away in July) aren’t as groovy as my fall boots ? ! I am so not ready for this!!!! I was planning on putting those spikey plants from the garden into ice cream pails and taking them to school to set up a prehistoric Dino play area in my classroom this weekend? ughhhh
Is it possible to post a picture? It would really cool you off .
kristinoldham@yahoo.com says
I can’t imagine that!!

Sorry for sounding crabby and ungrateful. I realize it is not a hurricane.

I hear you! Fall is my favorite season, but October? Add to all the above mentioned activities our school does a Fall Festival after school on a Friday! The kids start asking at 8:05 how much longer until the Fall Festival? Makes for a long day! Thanks for the Awards Announcement! It is adorable and I plan on using it this week! Awards next Friday! 🙂
