Hmmm. Awkward.
Well, enough with this . . . awkwardness. There. You’ve seen me. I am NORMAL.
When I was trying to come up with a blog name, I wanted something cute with alliteration like Funky First Grade Fun or Faithful in First or First Grade Friends or . . . you get the picture. They were all taken. And then I picked three or four (a teeny tiny teacher included) and texted all my friends and asked them to vote. A Teeny Tiny Teacher won by a landslide. There you have it.
I have no idea what you might comment about on this post. Maybe you’ll agree with me. Yes, that would be nice. If you need an idea, you could say, “You ARE normal.” Or you could tell me how tall (or short) you are. Something! Just so I know you saw this. And now you know. 🙂
PS I fell asleep during Atlanta Housewives last night so I will have to catch up tonight. But was anyone else wondering if Kim just lays around in bed ALL DAY with that “dog”? Is it a dog? Or is it something else? A guinea pig? A hamster?
Ms. Chrissy B says
Completely normal.
I love the name of your blog, by the way, and I spent a little more than a normal amount of time thinking about the title (and wondering what the deal was, exactly), so I am SUPER happy that you psychically understood what I wanted you to write about and that you wrote about it today!
I am 5'4" which is a reasonable height, especially where I live which is with mostly short people. Around here I am only slightly shorter than average, by which I mean, like, one inch shorter than most women and, like, five inches shorter than most men. It's a short population around here.
The Astro pop is absolutely ridiculous. Great picture choice. It seems like an extra-long version of any Astro pop I've ever seen.

HAHAHAHA I {LOVE} all of your posts! They are too funny. I totally get you on the whole short thing! I am 5'1" and everyone always comments on how I look like a student! I can't wear jeans or sneakers because everyone will confuse me with a kid! haha :):):)

Beautiful! It is definitely a case of curiosity and being a visual learner with me. I never thought you were abnormal! I am addicted to your blog and read it every day! It is my crack, so yes you need to post at least once a day.

haha! I LOVE that pic of you and your husband!!
You crack me up girl! You remind me of me!(well…just not on blogland yet – still trying to find my "voice," but in person I am you! lol)

Thanks for your blog! I love it and I think it is the name that caught my attention. I think I win because I am not even 5 feet and teach K. I get many comments as you can imagine:)

I am cracking up over that astro pop. Just looking at that picture made me laugh so hard.
I love and miss you too. You are my favorite blogger and I'm happy you post almost every day like I said. 🙂

I feel ya girl. I'm 5'1 1/2" (that half inch is VERY important). I have a couple of first graders that are nearly as tall as me. And I won't lie- last year when we did last call on lost an found items there was this super cute cardigan sweater from Justice. Brand spankin new and NO ONE claimed it. So I took it home. Yeah, I took a sweater that ten year olds wear and damn do I look in it!

I am NOT a twin, but my big sister and I are really close. Let me rephrase that she is my older sister, since I am a half an inch taller than her (she's 5'1 and I'm 5'2.) We are both teachers and we live in the same town. Thank goodness! When I am with her my goal is to (at all times) make her laugh until something either comes out of her nose or her mouth. {I'm REALLY good at it!!!}
It is good that you are clarifying this misconception. Your stories are too funny. As teachers, we are constantly reminding our kiddos to paint a picture in our minds of the characters, settings, and such. I can only imagine what some people may have envisioned in their minds of the miniature teacher!
Also, if I were taking care of my husband all weekend long, I'd deserve a cookie, gold medal, some booze, and a trip to an upscale mall!
Happy Monday,
Andi
Miss Squirrels says
How long have you been blogging and no one has seen you?! Smooth…I don't feel so bad about using the squirrel as my pic!
I am at the opposite end. I am 5'10". ANd I have been since the end of 6th grade! NOw that I am an adult (by age only), it isn't anything spectacular- but 20 something years ago… I was a giant….oh, and the boobie fairy hit the same summer! So for 3 years I looked like I was going to fall over!
And then metabolism, gravity, and age kicked in….
So I "leveled out" in my height, got rid of the boobies (really)had three children….use your imagination at this point…
hee hee!
I used to cut out celebrities head shots and tape them to my ID badge for school….maybe I'll slip one of those in there!!!

Kristin, Yes you are normal in every way except one – you are abnormally funny! Very, very, very abnormally funny! You always make me laugh, which is so good for me! I always smile when I see you have a new post and read it immediately (even if I really should be finishing report cards, which I should).
Lots of love to you,
Camille

Now that I've picked myself off the floor, I can comment! You are SO funny! I never thought you were abnormal, but now that I think about it some probably did!! I am 5'4" on my tip-toes. I love the pic of you and the hubs! Congrats on being taller than the chair AND table. We've all gotta have goals, right!? I have second graders nearly taller than me and they love it. And like another commenter, I too have scored at the lost and found at the end of the school year!

My BTF is about 4'10" and our secretary is 4'11" and another teacher is just over 5'. I am 5'6" and AMA giant compared to them. But my sister is 6'! She got the height gene. My BTF had a first grader last year whom was taller than she was! A bit odd! I guess I didn't have the curiosity since I did see your pic in the all about me part! 🙂

The title of your post caught my eye because with 2 teenage girls, the word "awkward" is an everyday thing around here. Actually, they just say "awk", to everything, all the time. Well, mainly when I try to act like their friend or another teenager, but you get the picture.
Teeny Tiny is a great way to be, my mom is 4'11", my youngest is 4"11 3/4" (the 3/4 makes a huge difference, she says), my oldest is 5'0" and I am holding steady at about 5'2" (I say about because I think I am shrinking since menopause kicked in, lol). Imagine my surprise when I kept reading and there was a reference to my blog! That made me smile because sometimes I think nobody reads my rants and raves, but I guess people are reading, so like you said, I will keep posting. Please do the same, I love, love, love reading your blog! Blessings!

What is up with Kim staying in bed ALL the time and that outfit… really??? But I wouldn't mind getting one of her wigs.. I think it would be HILLARIOUS!!!! I would need a brown one and you can get a blonde one… then we can use those as our blog pics and nobody will care about our sizes… right??? They will think one of 2 things… wow that is some FAB-U-LOUS hair or is that a Kim Z wig…either way it would fit our spunky selves!!! OH and that guinea pig… shaved dog thingy… what is that? and what do you think Kroy's parents think of Hot mess Kim??? I am email following if you want to respond.. and I will go directly to look up her wigs so I can quote you a price!!!

Mrs. "Bossy" says
Astro pops! Haven't seen those in forever. The cracking up is totally contagious! Sisters are the best. The only reason I have 4 kids is because I had 2 boys, then a girl, and she could not survive life with out a sister! (I have 2) Brothers are just not the same. Even though my girls can annoy the hell out of all of us with their girlyness, I wouldn't change it. They need each other.
Reagan Tunstall says
Oh Kristin you are totally gorgeous. So's your twin…I feel totally awkward now…so sorry! I never thought you were a little person or weird or anything bad…just wanted to see how short you really were since you reference it so much. p.s. my favorite book ever ( I always say every book is my favorite, but I mean it this time) is The Teeny Tiny Teacher…and when I read it to my class I read it really scary. It is so fun. So when I read your blog title I was immediately hooked! anyway…sorry for the awkwardness.
Reagan Tunstall says
oh and the astropop! I died. DIED. that picture is absurd. I think I lost a tooth in an astropop once because when I saw that picture I remembered it pulling out as I yanked that beast out of my mouth. Then I remembered the waxy taste at the bottom. Great memories.

I wanted a cool name for my blog with alliteration too so that is how I came up with Marvelous Multiagers. Although, if I get a new job sometime, I don't know what I'll do! Because there are way more single-grade classrooms and I'd much rather be teaching one of those!! I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
Marvelous Multiagers!

NORMAL? YOU??? Absolutely Not!!!!
You are one of the most giving, kindest, prettiest people I know! And in the past few months I am finding out the funniest too! I miss you so much but in some weird way I feel so connected to you through your blog! I am on of your stalkers like so many other people have commented… First thing I check after work! Maybe I can start a "Teeny Tiny fan club" do you do autographs for your stalkers? HA! Hope to see you soon!

YOU are too cute! I honestly thought you were sitting on your husband's lap when I looked at your photo! But then I read on and saw that YOU ARE STANDING!! You are tiny!! Love it! I'm 5'2….barely…and I think I'm shrinking already….ugh!! Sure do love ya and thanks for making me smile after a rough day at the job….(see my blog post if you want a downer!! Not kidding~ what was I thinking when I wrote that??)
Love ya girl,

Can I just say a few things here:
1. I LOVE how your blog is different. You post way cute stuff on here, but you actually write on your blog. 🙂 You share HILARIOUS stories and you just crack me up. I like it. So, keep it up girl.
2. For some reason, that's not what I imagined you looked like {you are beautiful, by the way}. I guess I didn't really register your blog name and your height would match. Maybe I thought your blog name was a metaphor. Or not! I'm not sure!:!?!?!?!?!?!?
3. I love hearing about you and your twinner!
4. did you see my comment on your other blog pot? Ughh….I had to delete my story because of FEAR of someone {not naming names} at my school reading it and turning me into a troll.
Tara says
I love it! You are not short, just petite! I am jealous because I was the jolly green giant when in college with all my "teeny tiny" friends…
You are awesome and keep doing what you are doing! You are an inspiration to us all!!!

I love reading your blog. Your blog is an inspiration to my life as a teacher. Now on to my school library, the two people who work in the library are boring. They dont want to hear any noise and much less mess of books.

Hi! I’m Conchy and I’m from Puerto Rico. I’m a first grade teacher and I am barely 5’ tall. My husband is 6’ and my 16 year old son is 6’6”! My dad is 5’3” and my mom is 5’.
At my school, I’m the teeny, tiny teacher. In fact, the 2nd day of school one of my students couldn’t find our classroom, so she went to the office to ask where it was. When they asked her the name of her teacher she said she couldn’t remember but she was looking for “the little teacher’s room”. Everyone knew she was talking about me!
I may be short, but I have a BIG heart and I’m very passionate about my beliefs. I know you are too! Love your blog!
Big hugs!!!

Hahah…no I didn't get in trouble.
🙂 And you pretty much just made my day with your comment on my blog about the one thing that we can't talk about because I might get banned from reading books FOREVER! 🙂

One of my best friends from college is 4'9". I totally get it. I love her and she makes up for her height in her VERY LOUD VOICE! You seriously can't miss her if she's in a room! Her mother is only 5'1", but her father 6' something. She obviously didn't take after him!
And p.s. the "mystery font" that you and Hadar were looking for, I believe is either Ashley K or Elizabeth Skinny. I would check out Wendy Sue too if you like those! 🙂
Mrs. Ann Greene says
You are too funny! I just love reading your blog no matter what you write about. However, I was somewhat curious about where the name of your blog came from. In regards to your size, my mother was 4'11 but I believe she has shrunk in her elder years. I have always been just a few inches taller that her. My son…who is 12…is now taller than me. I have a feeling my daughter…who is 7…will be taller than me, probably by tomorrow! Oh well…

Now it's out, what you look like that is. And it must be all sorts of wonderful to have a twin! Many of us twinless people have always wished we had a twin. How nice. You and your sis are blessed to have each other.
And so, I guess that I'm your newest follower. Looks like number 791 or so. Thanks for your blog. I always look forward to reading it.

So my mother and I teach at the same school, so she is Mrs. R and I am Little Mrs R. Our last name is hard to pronounce so it is just R!
The kids are so cute, we don't call my mother BIG Mrs. R either! They come up with many versions of Mrs. Little R- I have been called Mrs. R junior, or oh I can't remember lol

I knew that I "knew" what you looked like when people were asking for a picture, but I couldn't remember why! I guess I read your about me before! {go me!}

You are precious but not what I pictured at all. I am vertically challenged also. My Firsties LOVE to hug me and pick me up! One year I had a kiddo tell me that when he hugged me it was like hugging a cylinder but when he hugged his momma it was like hugging a big ol' sphere! I cracked up but was glad he was transferring his knowledge of 3d shapes! hahahaha =)

Reading your blog always makes me smile-and I definitely want you to post EVERYDAY! One reason I choose to teach the primary grades is that I am taller than all of the students and can't be confused for a student. I used to work with 6th graders and high schoolers-I more than once got confused for a high school student. My students think I'm old because even at the age of 22 I am older than some of their parents.
Thanks again for a great post!

ok, I have to say the Astro pop picture made me laugh. and I love your owls on your blog. i think owls are so cute. I have a hysterically funny owl video that I could send you the link too. you would totally crack up. I have a twin sister also, but we are identical which no one believed not even the dentist. til he took xrays for removing our wisdom teeth and then told my mom she was right – we WERE identical. duh. But I am so blessed with her – she is a teacher too – as when I neded a kidney transplant she gave me one of her kidneys. Needless to say sheis my hero and I can NEVER tell her no about anything. I do have a question for you though – why does she look up stuff on adoption? just curious because I have two adopted children whom I love with all my heart and my twim has one biological and one adopted child and we feel so blessed with our children! and don't feel bad about being teeny tiny as many of us would dearly love to be so small. admittedly your husband looks like a giant next to you but that is ok too! : )
Kandie says
oh and one more comment – my daughter is teeny tiny also – she is 4'10" and weighs 85 pounds and I was laughing about your post and she said yes, it is a proud day when you realize you're taller than the furniture! : )

I do love your blog! I teach with my tbff who is 4'll and a twin! I love to read your posts and you remind me so much of her. =) The weird thing is that the kinders are ALWAYS mixing us up and I'm 5'7!Unfortunately this also occurred when she was VERY pregnant….made me think twice about missing those work outs! We both have dark curly hair so I guess that's the key but still….

I got a kick out of that blog/posting/thingy. I've completed the first week of First grade! (Usually teach 2nd or 3rd). Yeah and your "Gold Tags" have saved my life. I'm still getting it together but we had Fun Friday yesterday and it was wonderful. Wonderful to be able to say "What happened, how come you only have one gold ticket? I remember you had trouble lining up!!!" he he he.
I could really use your help with pacing. Seems like I can only give them 10 minutes to work and then I need to start another lesson! How do you pace/structure the day/reading instruction?
Thanks for making my life easier! I'm a believer!
