It is Saturday.
And I cannot move.
This was the longest week ever in the history of my life and I cannot explain it because I am not a new teacher, I did not move classrooms, I did not move grade levels, and no one was holding a gun to my head.
But I went to school every day (two by choice and three by force) and then I came home and printed and laminated and cut and created and bought and I don’t even know what else, but I missed my hubby and Miss Murphie through the whole week.
I think it was worth it, though, because I have the whole weekend in front of me with nothing to do. And I am pretty set for the next two weeks and should have nothing to do after school either. ๐
Which is good because, like I said, I cannot move.
Some of the following pictures were posted on my Instagram so if you follow me on Instagram, this won’t be new or exciting for you. Just a little heads up, if you will.
I looked everywhere for these blue pocket charts that Target carries in the dollar spot and could not find any at any Target near me (or within an hour’s driving distance – yes, I drove to SEVERAL Targets). So my bloggy friend, Denise, at Sunny Days in Second Grade, sent me SIX (!!!!!) plus a feet snuggie thingamajig that I am going to put to use at the end of the first day of school. They came ALL THE WAY FROM FLORIDA!
And, after Denise mailed these pocket charts to me, my Target suddenly had them. But that’s neither here nor there.
I love my bloggy friends. So far, I am only using two of them, but I know the next four will definitely come in handy at some point or another.
Do you hear the choir of Angels singing?
Hallelujah!!! Look at this bad boy! My teammie’s nephew made this for me (and one for her, too) and it is by far the best thing EVER that I acquired for my classroom this year. I can’t stop looking at it.
It holds 12×18 paper. !!!!!!!!
And, before anyone leaves a comment that says my ROYGBIV is backwards, listen carefully.
This Wonderful Changed My Life Forever Construction Paper Sorter is behind my whiteboard. And I have to slide the whiteboard door to the left. Which means I wanted the more popular colors at the far right hand side so I would only have to open the sliding door just.a.bit.
Get it?
My backwards ROYGBIV had lots of thought and logic and reasoning behind it.
I know!
That empty space next to the Starbursts is supposed to hold copy paper. Except we have a new policy this year for our copier and for the first time ever, we will not have clicks. Which means we are not limited on copies.
I have had clicks for the last 13 years and cannot believe our new principal was on board with what we have wanted for years and years.
No more clicks means we have unlimited copies but need to provide our own paper. The office will give us one ream per week, but anything above and beyond that is on us. Which is fine with me because I can go out and buy more paper, but I could never buy more clicks (except for a certain upper grade teacher who would give me his clicks for a six-pack of beer).
Needless to say, I blew through my first ream of copy paper in about two minutes flat.
BIG SIGH.
This is on canvas.
And a former parent brought it to me one day this week as a present.
This might actually top the construction paper sorter.
How adorable is this?!?! It matches my color scheme, too. I love the thought behind it and all of the details — Murphie’s name is spelled right and she was born in 2012. I figured that out after a bit of thinking.
SO FREAKING COOL!
This is part of my color scheme and if you don’t think the red schoolhouse goes with turquoise and lime green, just look at the turquoise accents on the school roof and then pretend.
I am trying not to have to change my bulletin boards every season this year. I don’t know if it will work, but it’s part of my long range plan of not staying at school until 6 or 7pm so I am pretending the schoolhouse totally goes because I can’t let go of the cuteness of the schoolhouse.
My teammie came up with the cute mini clothespins idea . . . we hot glue gunned them onto the background pieces.
I LOVE it and think it should be a piece of cake to switch out student writing. And they’re cuter than paper clips. ๐
I made the flags and you can grab a freebie {HERE}.
Heather, me, and Laurie
This is my first grade team . . . just the three of us. We lost two members this year. One had to go to second grade and the other has a K/1 combo which we think will end up as a straight K once all of the numbers shake out.
Anywho, our principal is doing a whole Super Hero theme this year and she is absolutely amazing and made our first three days back so much fun!
She provided breakfast for us two days in a row, had Jersey Mikes cater our lunch on Thursday, and BJ’s brought pizza, pasta, and salad for lunch on Friday.
THEN, Friday afternoon, she and our assistant principal wheeled around an ice chest to all of our classrooms with all kinds of ice cream inside and they called themselves The Ice Cream Truck. I had a drumstick. ๐
Notice my principal cares about food just as much as me.
And that was my week.
How was yours?
I think your schoolhouse looks absolutely perfect on that bulletin board! I too have special shelves for my 12×18 construction paper and I LOVE it! Have a fabulous year! ๐

I spent this week getting my room unpacked since I had to move classroom this year. Teachers are to report next Tuesday. I've also had a few meetings this week as well. My rooms not ready but since the schools air is not on over the weekends I don't go in, too hot in this FL heat! Just as an FYI watch the Staples deals for their copy paper. I buy it when they have rebates and it only costs me a dollar or less. Have a great school year!

That Murphie picture is awesome. I love it! You always look appropriately dressed for every occasion. Never too much skin or too tight. Very impressive. I'm kind of looking forward to starting school in a couple weeks, but my body is still in very tired mode. I keep leaving all the things I have to do and going to the beach with the kids.
Kristin! The target by me had a ton of those beautiful blue pocket charts and I was looking for a reason to buy them! Text me next time! And anytime your principal wants to roll the ice cream to another school…just sayin'! ๐
I think I need your principal to relocate to Idaho. I love my little blue pocket charts. I love the Murphie poster is darling. Good luck next week.
I LOVE that picture of Murphie! I need one of my fur baby and tortoise now!

Totally impressed with your principal!
I'm wondering if you are too TIRED to move or too FULL to move! Sounds like your principal believes "the way to a teacher's heart is through her stomach" I'm with her! Good luck Monday!!
I loved the part of "getting to use the copier for a 6-pack". You do whatcha gotta do! haha!!
Mrs.Christyโs Leaping Loopers
Maybe I should send this to my principal – particularly the part about the lunches and the ice cream!

That murphie picture is just AMAZING, and your principal rocks, I love it!

Love Love the Murphie canvas! What a great parent to create it for you! I also would like a paper sorter in that size. My large paper is always in a stack and the color I need is always on the bottom- which usually means that the stack is lopsided after I pull pieces out…..jeez

Teachers Are Terrific!
This is our first year on the "clicks" system. 2,000 per month (but back to back paper = 2 clicks!). Too soon to tell if this is good or not. Today was LAUSD's first day with students and I am flipping exhausted so good night.
