Five for Fraturday

Happy Saturday!

We are having one of our favorite couples over for dinner tonight.  This couple happens to live in the next neighborhood over.  We can walk there.  If we drove, it’s three stop signs away.  And I think the last time we saw them was . . . October.  Maybe.

Isn’t that sad?  Isn’t that horrible?  We’ve been friends for about twenty years and they were in our wedding, even.  And when we moved out here to Timbuktu, they said they would never see us again and cried.  So they bought a house out here right after we did and we said we would grow old together.  And then they went and had three sons who play every sport under the sun, and even sports not under the sun which involve ice and another one that involves a court of some sort, and there you have it.  They are busy people.  

We are too, what with all the marathons we are involved in.

I mean, we have to catch up on Scandal so that will be a marathon TV watching day, and we heard we should start watching the Blacklist so that will be another marathon we have to gear up for, too.

I am really excited to spend some quality with them!  

I’m going to feature some pics from the last two weeks because I missed last week’s Five for Fraturday.  This way, you will be all caught up on MY LIFE which I know you feel the need to be “all up in”.

Murphie is learning how to swim at Doggy Dog Care.  
I think she already instinctively knows how to swim, but she hates it, so basically we are torturing her because the hubby offered a bonus to any daycare worker who could get her to swim.
They sent us this pic and it cracked me up because of the other three dogs who look to be either labs or retrievers or just plain swimmer dogs.  From the looks on their faces, I think they were absolutely incredulous that Murphie was in the water. 
I imagined the conversation went something like this.
Dog 1:  Murphie is in the water!
Dog 2:  No way!  
Dog 3:  Shut up!
Dog 1:  Come look!
Dog 2:  Well, I’ll be.
Dog 1:  I know!  
Dog 3:  I can swim, but ohhhh nooooo.  No one ever looks at me like that. 
Or, I think it could have gone this way:
Dog 1:  Murphie’s in the pool!!!!!
Dog 2:  Go, Murphie, go!  Woohoo!
Dog 3:  Why is she getting all the attention?  I do that every day. 

Last week was Teacher Appreciation at our school.  Our PTA had a Food Truck come for our catered lunch.  
I know.  They are amazing.  We are totally spoiled.  They are unbelievable and out-do themselves every year.
It was a Waffle Sandwich Food Truck.
I felt nervous.  
Waffle sandwiches?  What?
Like with ice cream and chocolate syrup and whip cream?  Like that?  Like a waffle cone, but made into a sandwich of yummy goodness and deliciousness?
No.
With turkey or pastrami or chicken or pulled pork.
What?
So I ordered the turkey because I love turkey sandwiches.  But I was so nervous.
You would have been nervous, too.  This is just not normal.
At all.
I mean, it had some kind of mango salsa and some kind of special cheese and I don’t know what else.
So I took a little bite.
And then another.  And then I couldn’t decide so I took another.
And then before I knew it, I’d eaten the whole thing, gotten the Food Truck’s business card, and guess what we’re serving our friends tonight for dinner?
Just kidding.
But it was DEE-LISH.  I didn’t understand it.  But somehow it all went together.  It was sooooo good.
Oh my word.  Are you dying?
This is Heidi.  She is my teammie’s new puppy.  
Look at her ears.  My ears are too beeeg for my body!
I fell in love and I tried to kidnap her, but my teammie wouldn’t let me.
Oh, puppies.
I seriously feel like every teacher’s lounge should be filled with puppies and babies because they lower stress.  I didn’t read that anywhere and I made it up, but I honestly think holding a puppy or a baby lowers stress by 77.9% and that 3 out 4 doctors and 5 out of 6 dentists agree.
Granted, someone else would have to hold the babies if they’re crying, and someone else would have to pick up the poop.  We don’t want to add to our stress.

GO GET SOME NOW.
My mom and older sister introduced this to me.  And it is to die for.  It is perfect.  Do not get the Breyer’s Gelato.  Trust me.  We did a taste test and it failed.  Miserably.  It does not compare.
And my family knows ice cream.  Growing up, we pretty much had it every night after dinner.  Either that, or a homemade treat such as chocolate chip cookies or brownies or red velvet cake.  
And, sometimes, we put the cookies into the ice cream.
We are an authority on ice cream.  Believe me.
And this Haagen Dazs Sea Salt Caramel Gelato is it.  
We shared this little container before going out to eat for dinner.  
I told you.  
Half the time, we can’t even wait to eat our ice cream.  That’s how important it is to us.

The Curl Secret.
Is this for real?
I saw it on a commercial (which is rare for me because I fast forward through commercials like nobody’s business) and then I looked it up.
And it appears real.  And the reviews appear real.
You just clamp a small section of hair and this thing sucks up your hair, curls it, and then beeps when it’s time for you to let go.
Say what?
I have straight hair.  STRAIGHT hair.  When I try to curl my hair, nothing happens.  And I am not good with using a wand or a curling iron without the clamp or whatever else you people use to make your hair look like you just came from the beach and it was totally effortless and aren’t you lucky and I hate you.
Who has this Curl Secret thing?  I want to know and I want to know now.
Because I am thinking of buying it.  And then if I don’t like it, I’ll have a giveaway.

    I want to come over for dinner, the waffle sandwich, puppies and babies in the staff lounge, the ICE CREAM and can i add a glass of red wine and pjs? Ill pass on the curl wand thankyouverymuch!

    OMG you have gotta love a post full of cute dog pictures like these – don't know which one made me laugh more!!!
    re curl thing-a-bob don't know anyone who has used it but watch a few independent reviews – it gets a mixed bag response – the biggy is that when you first start using it, it takes forever (like 40mins if you please) but as you get better at it, it takes less and less time.
    The curls though are meant to last…I don't know how ever if that includes hair that likes to go "dada I look fab" when you have just completed styling and then 10 mins later goes "what do you mean you did me" and looks straight and boring again (ie mine!!!).

    I love your posts, you always put a smile on my face! My Mom has one of those magic curl thingys and it's actually really good! When I first used it I freaked out a little that it wouldn't know when to stop curling as it swizzles all your hair in to it, and that it would just rip out a huge chunk of my hair, but it didn't, and the curls look just like on the photo 🙂

    Oh my gosh your post is fabulous! Everything you have for 5 for today connected with me. My St Bernard went to doggie physical therapy and was totally petrified of swimming. He even had a life jacket but it was torture. He could totally sympathize with your pup. Last summer, my mom and I went to Ben and Jerry's factory and got a sample of their Sea Salt Caramel ice cream. Have you tried theirs? I will definitely try Haagen Dazs. thanks for the recommendation! And finally, I have very curly hair and I am often trying to get it straight. It is so funny-it is always that way with hair- trying to get yours to act the opposite. Thanks for sharing the fun pics!

    I thought you would enjoy knowing that my 5-year-old daughter (who is in Kindergarten) was reading bits and pieces of your blog post over my shoulder. She especially liked when the part when you wrote, "My ears are too beeg for my body!" She is a Skippyjon Jones fan! 🙂

    The hair curling thing sounds too good to be true! My luck my hair would get tangled and stuck in the dang thing and I'd have to cut it off. Keep us posted on it. Poor Murphie! Not all dogs like the water!
