Hello there.
I have a “throwback Thursday” type of post today, plus a little story.
I introduced The Message Center to my class the other day. Remember this center? I told you about it before.
If you don’t remember this center, click {HERE} to read the full post.
If you haven’t ever done the Message Center in your class, I highly recommend it. Highly. In fact, I kind of want to come over to your classroom and model it for your kids. Seriously.
Because just like every other year, when I introduced it to this class, they clapped.
They clapped, I said.
So I took a bow and I curtsied and I patted myself on the back.
Nothing else really mattered that day. I mean, I got applause.
The End, right?
AND, if you click {HERE}, you can get some freebie stationery. We are budgeted on our clicks (copies) so I just use half sheets of copy paper.
Don’t tell on me. No one needs to know that I get the copy paper from the copy machines of which I have to have clicks in order to use. Shhhhh.
Okay.
Before I introduced that center, I had a parent volunteer reading with kids in a one-on-one setting. And one little guy asked my parent volunteer a question.
Here is their conversation:
Kid: How old are you?
Parent: I am forty-four.
Kid: I am six.
Parent: I know. You’re the same age as my son.
Kid: Did you have Mrs. Oldham when you were six?
I guess while I’m busy bowing and receiving applause and introducing centers, I am also getting wrinkles.
And using a cane.
And possibly having a weekly wash-n-curl appointment with my hairdresser.
I don’t know.
But, just for the record, and so that we’re all on the same page, I wasn’t even in school yet when this parent volunteer was six.
I was born. But I wasn’t old enough to go to school.
Elementary school, that is.
And they didn’t even have TK back then so don’t bring it up.
Thank you.
The End for real.

Oh my gosh! I am so doing this tomorrow! My kids are driving me nuts, so I need an applause moment! Thanks for the idea! Keep 'em coming!

I miss you! This is a great post and I love all the side comments. You are not getting old so shush up and I mean it. This looks like amazing fun. Stick CCSS on the stationary and in my world it is common core aligned with children citing their opinions… blah, blah. This is a genius idea. I swear I am taking a day off and coming to your classroom and then heading on to Katie Knight's. Right? Get ready… love you.

That conversation cracked me up! I don't know whether to laugh or cry when kids talk about age – I've gotten anywhere from 18 – 80. Yes, 80. From a student who was too old to be innocently guessing!
