Hello, Hello, Hello!
Last weekend was our glorious three day weekend. GLORIOUS!
We went to Jason and Stacie’s (our old neighbors) like we always do for every major holiday that is not Christmas. We do this because they are our good friends, and we also do this because of their backyard, and WE ARE SMART.
Their backyard is like a resort. I was standing by their house to take that picture above. What you see across the pool is another house. It’s their “pool house”. You know. The house for the pool. Or guests. Or whatever. You can go in there and get everything wet and it doesn’t matter because it’s the POOL house. You can also play pool on the pool table, if you want. Or watch TV and sit on the sofa or the chairs that are “get wet-able”. Or get a drink or a snack in the KITCHEN. Or use the restroom or take a shower in the bathroom THAT IS BIGGER THAN MINE.
Just saying.
Lucky for us, they are super generous with all of their things, love hosting, and invite us over all the time, and pretty much consider us family. As a matter of fact, Jason (of Jason and Stacie) has an older sister named Kristin. And I (of me, myself, and I) have a younger brother named Jason. That’s just funny, if you ask me. Jason (of Jason and Stacie) and I have a TON in common and like mostly ALL of the same foods and dislike mostly ALL of the same foods and we actually feel as if we are, in fact, brother and sister. That’s just a fun fact for you and has nothing to do with last weekend at all.
As you can see in the picture, it rained. Out of the blue. BAM. The dark clouds rolled in, the wind picked up, we all started saying that’s weird, it looks like it’s going to ra—“ and RAIN SHOWER. Almost everyone got out of the pool at that time, but then several just got right back in because they said wet is wet.
Stacie and me. This girl is AMAZING, by the way. She has some serious health issues and never wants to talk about them or dwell on them, and she is one of the strongest women I know. She should never have had a baby (so the doctors said) but she did! And he’s going to be 11 years old next month. He calls me Uncle Kristin and I LOVE it.
Three day weekends plus good friends = HAPPY.
LOOK! LOOKY HERE! Steve added more counter to the desk in my office and extended it all the way to the wall over the long weekend. Before, it was stopping about half way. Now I have EVEN MORE ROOM for ALL THE STUFF that I have to have!
Steve loves those gray chairs (Target) and pictured me having meetings with blogger and TpT friends in this office, but I’ve only ever had Aris (Sailing into Second) and Lauren (A Teachable Teacher) in it for a “work day”. They taught me how to use my Silhouette which I have not used since.
Um.
So anyway, it was a fun day, but I don’t recall any of us sitting in the gray chairs.
So I sit in the gray chairs when I have time (Saturday mornings) and drink a cup of coffee and watch a show.
Steve also FINALLY painted the lower cabinets and made a counter for me over here! The paint actually matches in real life (he color matched it) even though it looks like it doesn’t match in the picture. Painting the lower cabinets and putting a counter on them took Steve . . . THREE YEARS. I’ve had my office for three years and that little area was a HOT MESS.
So I’m super excited about it and now I think I’ll finally decorate the walls.
Because they are STILL blank.
After three years.
STILL.
Someone help me.
Someone come make things for me on my Silhouette and design my walls, please.
Oh my gosh!!! YOU GUYS! These twins made me laugh so hard this week on Bachelor in Paradise. Ignore the swear word (which is bleeped out) but the one twin said something about if he touches me, I will drop him! and whatever/however/the tone/the inflection/however she said it, her twin sister DIED LAUGHING.
I was walking on the treadmill (I’m being super consistent!!) and about fell off.
I laughed and laughed and laughed. Then I re-watched it and laughed again. I took a video of it to show it to Kerry because this is how we are. One of us can say the most nonchalant, no big deal thing, and it will just tickle the other’s funny bone and then we are both rolling around/not breathing/hitting one another. We can also do this with our older sister and our mom. Maybe it’s a girl thing? I don’t know.
But I love this clip!!
Am I the only one?
Because I die every time.
Oh wow!! Something school related! WOW! Who am I?
I did teach this week. I did. Four whole days. Tuesday through Friday. And this is the only picture I took because PEOPLE, TEACHING IS HARD RIGHT NOW.
We did get all of our recesses which really really really helped me (and the kids, obviously) but our new Benchmark Advance curriculum should be called ADVANCED Benchmark Curriculum.
I mean.
I could teach it all day, every day, including Saturday and Sunday, and STILL not accomplish everything. I am running out of time ALL THE TIME. I’m not getting to ANYTHING. Mini lessons? Seriously? This little phonics lesson should only be 5 minutes?
Are you kidding?
It takes FIVE WHOLE MINUTES to stop the kids from raising their hand to tell me that So and So is squishing them on the carpet.
To which I always reply Well, I’m not squishing you, why are you telling me?
It takes FIVE WHOLE MINUTES to stop the kids from raising their hand to ask me Have we had our last recess yet?
To which I always reply Um, we just arrived, just unpacked, and haven’t even said the pledge of allegiance, FOR THE LOVE OF PETE AND THE SANITY OF MY WELL BEING, NO! NO, NO, NO!
It takes FIVE WHOLE MINUTES to stop the kids from raising their hand to tell me THEY FORGOT, THEY DON’T KNOW WHY THEY RAISED THEIR HAND.
Yeah.
So.
For Friday’s morning work, I switched it up and used A Teachable Teacher’s Read and Color for short i word families because that was a five ten fifteen never mind and go back to your seat mini lesson one day this week.
🙂
Last night I had some girls over for a much needed Girls Night. There were eight of us and we had the BEST time. We ate really yummy (but bad for you) food, had some adult beverages, talked, talked, talked, and laughed until we cried. It was very therapeutic and just what I needed!
We stayed up until almost midnight! I can’t tell you the last time I did that on a Friday night (since school has started).
I love my girlfriends! 🙂
And now the whole weekend is in front of me! Yay!
Enjoy!!

Hi Kristen,
I liked the short i read and color but can’t find it and the link doesn’t seem to work. Could you tell me if you found it on teachers pay teachers or on the teachable teachers web site?
Thanks and love your posts.
Debbie

I am afraid of Benchmark, very afraid! We did our 20 days of Rules & Regulations, Law & Order, Am I Losing My Mind, or whatever it’s called, and now we’re starting tomorrow. I keep hearing how their time schedule is ridiculous and that you can never get everything done. Plus our district has added a required 45 minute (daily) intervention time and a 30 minute (4 times a week) ELD time (in small leveled groups of course) into our day. Ummmmm – should I be teaching until midnight? I’m telling you, AFRAID, VERY AFRAID!

Hahaha!! I totally and completely understand!!!!!

I love your post and how real you are about life in your classroom! I wondered how you’d feel about the “rigor” of Benchmark. We feel it’s too advanced for our kids so we pick and choose what we use. I really feel it’s not accessible for my kids unfortunately. I do all of the teacher read aloud parts but find other stories for independent and small group reading (Reading A-Z). The leveled stories are too hard for them to read.

It is EXTREMELY rigorous. I think the publishers did not take into account the “average” six year old, never mind the “non-average” six year old. It is TOUGH!!
