Happy Saturday!!!
Last weekend, Hadar had a Sip and Scarf Exchange party! I had been looking forward to this night for over a month because this is my kind of party. We each brought an appetizer or dessert to share and then we exchanged scarves. Perfect. Evening.
Unfortunately, it was about 100 degrees that day so we only wore our scarves for this picture and then we promptly took them off. The scarf exchange was supposed to be a bit like a white elephant sort-of-deal but, instead, we took turns opening all of the scarves because a) we’re too nice or b) everyone wanted to see all of the scarves in order to see which ones we wanted to steal. So then we had a round two so that we could steal.
I ended up keeping the original one I picked (which was from Hadar) and I was happy that the scarf I brought was stolen (I am shameless in the fact that I wanted everyone to like it) and Aris ended up with it.
We talked and talked and talked and talked. Then we talked some more. We also ate a lot.
Like I said: Perfect. Evening.
If you asked me to make my hand do what it’s doing
in this picture again, I would not be able to.
What in the world?
By the way, that is not Carlene next to me.
That is Amy. ๐
My friend, Carlene, invited me to The Lion King and we had THE BEST seats! She has a friend of a friend of a friend or works with someone who works with someone who has a niece or a brother, or I don’t know, it’s possible I wasn’t listening very closely because we went to Maggiano’s for dinner beforehand and seeing as how I’d been on the Paleo diet for two whole one and a half days, I was OBVIOUSLY EATING bread and pasta and butter when she explained the connection.
Suffice it to say that I was on the THIRD ROW. THE THIRD ROW!!!!
It was amazing, and I want to go again, and I want to take Steve.
Also, just in the interest of giving you all of the details, Carlene and I have been friends for 21 years and she was a bridesmaid (and her husband was a groomsman) in my wedding. We live less than a mile from one another (her and her husband followed Steve and I out here to Timbuktu) but because she has three boys in hockey, basketball, baseball, piano, Spanish, drama, and other important life things, it is hard for us to see each other as much as we want.
Also, in the interest of being completely thorough, I ordered a buttery Chardonnay, caesar salad, four cheese ravioli, and some sort of caramel ice cream sponge cake-y dessert.
I considered it my open meal.
๐
Ay yi yi.
This picture shows my feet.
I need help.
But look at us working in groups to sort solids!
Now . . . picture some sort of tranquil music playing and everyone getting along like mac and cheese and everything is just lollipops and puppy dog tails.
Okay. What you just pictured is called a FANTASY and it didn’t happen.
Working in groups was hard work for us this week and I mostly just heard I don’t have any cubes! and You have more cylinders than me! and Where are all the spheres? I don’t see any spheres! and All I want are the red rectangular prisms. That’s all. Just give me all of your red rectangular prisms and no one gets hurt. and Here’s a pyramid! There’s only one! I found it! It’s mine! and That’s not fair! You can’t have all of those! Give me seven!
I decided to look on the bright side.
My class can name the solids.
BAM.
Done.
Check.
I rock.
And roll.
Teacher of the year right here.
I follow Bethanny Frankel on Instagram because . . . well, I do. I tend to be a bit of a stalker sometimes and I waste precious minutes searching for certain people and trying to figure out if it’s the real person or someone posing to be that person.
None of that matters. What matters is that I follow Bethanny Frankel on Instagram and she posted this Wine and Cheese Pairings picture and I promptly took a screenshot so I could have it forever. Or until my new phone comes and I decide I’m too lazy to back up my pictures. Either one.
I’m not at all picky about pairing a certain wine with a certain cheese. I mean, hello? Wine and cheese. The end. As long as the wine doesn’t come out of a box and the cheese isn’t individually wrapped and called singles, I’m a happy girl.
I think I will have wine and cheese for my next open meal.
๐
I also stalk a bunch of teacher bloggers on Instagram and Katie at the Queen of the First Grade Jungle thanked Deanna at Mrs. Jump’s Class and Holly at Mrs. Ehle’s Kindergarten Connections for sharing a video with her about bats and echolocation.
We are currently studying bats (in all subjects — love integrating it!) and we made a cute bat craft today so I showed the video while we were crafting.
Click {HERE} to check it out. The bonus for us was that it played about five songs right after it on a loop — Five Little Pumpkins, Dem Bones, Skeleton Family, and a couple of others that I can’t remember. It was fantastic and fun and just the thing for a Friday in October!
Now I am off to TWO birthday parties.
I know.
I am thinking cake must be Paleo . . . surely . . .

Thanks for mentioning Stellaluna. We're starting our Bat Week from KinderLiteracy this week and this will be fantastic as an engagement/enlightment resource. I found some cute songs on Youtube, too.

Your first graders used very mathematical language while they were bickering! That's a good thing. I rarely drink wine, but I'm a very big fan of cheese. A scarf exchange party sounds like exactly the kind of thing I'd love. Have a great weekend.

I LOVE the scarf party idea, might have to steal it! ๐
Definitely teacher of the year if their bickering includes academic vocabulary. ๐
