Fun Friday Once and for All (I hope)

I slept in today and Murphie let me. This was after we ignored her and cuddled with her and talked to her and made her lie down over and over and over again. We could just put her in the crate, but we are big softies. HUGE.

I was so tired due to all of the rolling around on the new carpet last night. I LOVE IT! I am so happy because not only is it clean and sterile, it makes our house smell brand new for some reason.

Today, I’m going to share my Fun Friday poster with you.

What?!

I know. I know I’ve made several others. I know.

But this is the newest one.

If you’re new to this here ole blog, I’ll update you really quick. My kids earn gold tags all week for Fun Friday (you can read all about that HERE). The person with the most gold tags gets to choose their center first. They grab the clothespin, stick it on their clothes, and off they go. Once the clothespins are gone from a center, that center is “closed”. And so on and so forth. I got this wonderful amazing classroom management idea from my good friend, Christina, who is flying out here and I get to see her this week! YAY!

This is my version of a clip chart, I suppose, which might be why my Good Samaritan thought I was in need of help. I’m sure she thought I was extremely confused in the head. Which I am, but for entirely different reasons.

Well, here is the new chart in all its glory.

Here is a plain old cupboard in my room.

I love this cupboard. It hides a lot of the Fun Friday stuff which means that the kids are not salivating over it all week. And all of the matching labels help the kids keep it organized. The labels on the tubs match the Fun Friday chart which match the liners in the cupboard so everything gets put back where it belongs.

Oh, it’s the little things that make my world go round.

And, yes, the mismatched tubs bother me. Yes, I thought about buying new tubs that matched so that it would look wonderful and beautiful and disgustingly amazing for you.

But the beauty of this cupboard is that it HIDES the mismatchy-ness from the outside world. So I don’t have to look at it all week. So it’s fine.

It is.

When it’s not, I just tell myself it’s fine. I can make myself believe anything if I try hard enough. For example, jalapeno chips are actually good for you because they make your nose run which means you blow it more often and get out anything that doesn’t belong.

This is only 8 of the 16 centers. The others stay out and about around the room like the Computers and the Listening Center and the Writing Center, etc. My Art Center is housed under the sink.

It used to be the best Art Center in all the land. I’m not kidding. It was a HUGE tub – the kind you might put Christmas decorations in or yourself if you’re playing hide and seek.

It had gems and pom poms and feathers and stickers and beads and paper and foam stuff and all manner of wonderful crafty things.

And then the first time my kids played with it, it became a huge disaster and there were feathers everywhere and he was upset because she took fourteen(!) gems and he only got two and why does she get to take home a necklace – that’s not fair!

Really, it was generally one little girl that hogged everything. But I couldn’t blame her because she had a vision each week. She’s destined to become something, that’s for sure.

So now my Art Center is about the size of a shoebox tub and it contains blank copy paper and watercolors and four plastic cups for water (from the $1 spot at Target). The kids have to sit on the tile by the sink because every week we have a spillage. EVERY SINGLE WEEK. But, by golly, I am going to have an Art Center. Even if I have to close it every other week due to the fact that the paper and the cups and the paint end up floating in six inches of water at the bottom of the tub.

So there you have it.

My new poster. I used a blue ribbon to hang the poster up. It’s cute. You’ll have to trust me.

I made lots and lots and lots of EXTRA clips in the event that some break or we lose some or someone goes home with one of them on their clothes.

This has alleviated some stress for me.

And that ought to do it for Fun Friday charts for me.

At least for a month or two, right?

I'm lovin' this! I would do something similar, let them earn coupons the following week, but they really really need Fun Fridays!!!

I like that you organize Fun Friday. I just call mine "Your Time" and it drives me batty because it is the only time of my week that isn't organized. I'm thinking I need to change. Now that you have mastered the art of Fun Friday Chart making – I think I'm good to just go ahead and copy you!

I have an Art Centre too… last week one of my kidlets spilt an entire bottle of clear glue on the floor, and in his wisdom used cotton puff balls to clean it up. There's still wisps of cotton stuck to the floor! 🙂

My Fun Fridays are working out great. I've got 4 fourth grade girls helping run it. Which left me to work on penmanship with the 5 kiddos who didnt have any gold tags! Eeeck. Love love your retell of mismatched containers. LOL. I just need a cabinet to hide my mismatched boxes in. Well Rome wasnt built in a day.
