Oh, the Sunday night blues are bad tonight. Waaaaa. My weekend was super busy, and now I can’t believe it’s almost Monday again. PJ and I did not have nearly enough time together. We miss all of you out there in Blogland . . . as well as some Reality TV and my couch. Luckily, tomorrow is Green Monday so that’s helping. Jeans, a t-shirt, and flip flops — because it is going to be 82 degrees!
Traci at Dragonflies in First wrote her own Leprechaun poem for the month of March. Now that’s talent! I was searching for a St. Patrick’s poem because the one I have talks about pinching. Which is not allowed in my school. How about yours? Plus, I used to be off track in March. I’m getting choked up just thinking about it. OFF TRACK. THIS MONTH. So that when we turn BACK the clock and LOSE AN HOUR of SLEEP, it wouldn’t bother me one bit. I just kept on sleeping. And lounging. And drinking coffee. And lunching. And by the time April rolled around, I was used to (sort of) the time change. I don’t know what I did to make our superintendent dislike me so much that he changed my perfect schedule.
I lost track of where I was, just thinking about being off track. See? I need to be off track so that I don’t lose my track.
Oh! I remember. I don’t really have March poems, seeing as how I’m not accustomed to teaching in March. I’ve got it rough, people.
So Traci posted this adorable poem and then sort of hinted that I should make word cards and a fill in the blank. Maybe she didn’t hint. Maybe it was more of a wish. And that wish floated on over here and POOF! Magic Wand! Pixie Dust! Her wish came true!
Here are the poems in color and black and white:

I hope you like them! I love them and can’t wait for my kiddos to use them in the classroom.
I have to give a quick shout out to my mom! She was my guest reader on Friday for Dr. Seuss’ birthday. ๐ Here she is:
Traci says
Ah… I LOVE YOU… and not in a weird, scary kind of way… I promise.
Thank you soooo much for doing these. {I kind of feel like I PUSHED more than WISHED… but either way… it all worked out! Thank you fairy dust!}
How FUN that your mom came in to read. My mom said she would come help out all the time once she retired. She retired. Do you know how often she's come in? zero. zip. nada.
whatever.
Thanks again!!! I'm off to print.

I had the blues too. Still do. You should hear the sandwich bags zipping up, the washer and dryer humming, and the coffee pot getting set over here. Waaaaaaaaaaaaa is right.
do you get spring break? We are off for st pats day week so no worries about pinching this year. I guess I'll put the crazy green clothes to rest till next year. Only in a teachers closet can you find ridiculous outfits for these holidays. Don't forget your sunscreen tomorrow.
Patty Rutenbar says
I love that your mom came! And guess what? I had a cheater in my class on Friday, too…during a spelling test, too……… with a cheat sheet, too! Too weird! It's so strange that first and second graders can figure that out at such an early age!

OMG I love that your mom came in to read. She is such a great mom to do this. Ask her if she travels to do this in kindergarten classrooms for close friends of yours. ASK, PlEEEEEEEEEEEEEEse.
Do not feel blue tonight. Tomorrow will be a great day. First graders are challenging. You need to come to kindergarten where no one cheats- they just copy each others' work and shout out the answers during individual assessment time.
Have a great week!

Hi there. If you need a good book to stop the interruption during story time, there's a wonderful book called The Interrupting Chicken. Since reading the book my kiddos have been much better. Plus…we now call people who interrupt chickens…you have to read the book to understand. Also, on a totally unrelated note, any way we can get the houghton mifflin story tests for theme 8? Please, please, please. I bought the pack from the one you recommended, but would still love yours. Thanks!!!

We had one of our first graders trying to cheat on his spelling test the other day! He had a list of the words in his lap and was looking at them. I couldn't believe it! Too young for that!
Ms. Chrissy B says
March IS rough. The fall semester flies by, but the spring one…..yeesh.
And I've had a couple of kids cheat on spelling tests this year! One of them got confused and copied the words off his spelling list in the wrong order. Then he cried for an hour when he was 'caught'. It was awful.

A CHEAT SHEET?? In 1st grade!? Love when the OT toys work so well. I had chewlry (plastic necklace chewy) in my room last year and the boy would send split flying across 4 desks. YUCK! It is report card time here so I spent the whole beautiful weekend working inside. ๐

OMGOSH…You made me laugh again tonight! I totally understand that whole Siri bad relationship thing. I am always yelling at the phone and then she says, "Annie, I don't understand what you are trying to say." Boy…my blood pressure sure goes up!! I try to speak more clearly, only with the same results. I end up googling things instead of using Siri:( Oh well…can you believe I am leaving this weather to go to a chilly 25 degrees tomorrow morning it Ohio??? Crazy! Have a great week!

My sisters friend was visiting from NY this weekend. I asked him what he thought about winter in Ca. Hardy-har-har. I hope you make it through march. When's your spring break?? So cal meet up does it again??

I've never done the track system. But I've heard people that do like it. My weekend flew by with tons to do and me making a dent in very little. I just finished off prepping for my taxes though. One thing off my list.

It's 25 degrees here. How do I get a Green Day? Is that one of those earth friendly turn off the AC and wear flip flops and comfy clothes days? Love that your mom was a guest reader in your room! Thanks for using your magic wand on the poem. I hope someone catches the Leprechaun – he freaks me out. Hope Monday is better than Sunday!

Hello CaliPal!
We're looking at close to 80 today… but rain tomorrow? Our perpetually perplexed weather girl is looking completely confused!
I think I should send my sixth graders over to cheat off of your first graders. Apparently "twelve year olds don't do spelling." Who knew?
YAY for your mom. That is so sweet–THO THWEET! Can't tell from the picture (Sorry), is she teeny tiny too? Looks like maybe yes…
Sending you good wishes for a reasonable March… Maybe the leprechauns will make them behave…

82 degrees….I can barely type that I am so jealous….it was minus 14 c. this a.m. with a windchill making it feel like minus 20. But I am heading to sunny Florida this Friday for our break, hurray ! Current pet peeve, kids who yell out for every page of the story I am trying to read, makes me craaaazy. Does no one ever listen to these children so they are compelled to share every thought, all day long at school ????? Hope your Monday is ok, really 82 degrees ?????
Sue says
I'm used to working in March – although I have March Break in 4 more days!:-) If you need some simple March poems, I have posted some on my classroom website.

I've caught two of my kiddos cheating on a spelling test this year–they wrote the spelling words on their desks and were copying them during the test. Cheating in 1st grade already?? YIKES!

Oh my, just found your blog and LOVING it! I have kindergarten and agree—they yell out the answers during assessments if they think someone is struggling or they stand by them at my table and whisper–like I can't hear them! But I LOVE them!
You had me falling out of my chair laughing! Oh ya, not really feeling sorry for you, we will be having our first–and last–week long spring break next week and I can't wait! Maybe it will come back after next year…when we find out who voted against it on the calendar selection–lol.
