I wish I could say I have a funny story or a lesson or some tiny bit of inspiration for you today, but I do not. Nope. I’ve got nothing.
I’m in survival mode.
It is May in just a few days and my to-do list is just getting longer and longer and, sometimes, I want to tackle it like I play for a football team who just won the Super Bowl and, other times, I want to stuff it down the garbage disposal, turn it on, walk away, and pretend it’s already summer.
I mean, I’ve been catching myself doing this thing where I’ll hear someone say a date in the future, such as June 10, or July 18, or even August 3, and I’ll think oh my word, I’ll be a free woman, that’s summer break!
Is that normal? Is it healthy?
I’ve decided it’s not healthy.
So here we are. It’s Saturday.
I’m trying really hard to take it one day at a time. To stay IN THE PRESENT.
And today just happens to be Saturday, and I am going to stay in pjs for the majority of the day, and then I’m going to follow it up with chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant where Steve and I are meeting his aunt and uncle for dinner. HOORAY!
HOORAY FOR TODAY! 🎉
Okay, so it might not be healthy for me to obsess about things in the future, but do you know what IS healthy? Or what I BELIEVE is healthy?
- First Thing I’m Obsessed With
GET SOME.
After you get some, and eat one, and then eat another one in rapid succession, you will want to thank me, but you don’t have to. It’s fine. You’re welcome.
I first heard about these from Mix and Match Mama, and since she works out, wears short shorts, has amazing legs, and writes cookbooks, I took her recommendation as more of a REQUIREMENT.
Not to mention, they are freaking DELICIOUS.
When I first told Kerry about them, she gave me the run-around because, apparently, one hundred and ninety calories just seemed like too many calories for a snack, and when was I eating this, and was it for breakfast? Or what? She was relentless in her line of questioning.
I mean, it was as if Kerry was my nutritionist and I had fallen off the path of righteousness, and eaten an entire gallon of Salted Caramel ice cream all by myself. (And I could have sworn when I did that, I was home alone and she was all the way over in Texas and didn’t know. And, by the way, there is nothing wrong with that if you choose to do that.)
To which I replied DID YOU NOT HEAR ME SAY I GOT THIS BISCUIT RECOMMENDATION FROM MIX AND MATCH MAMA?!
This is neither here nor there, but I lost it, Kerry’s questioning just tickled my funny bone (she makes me laugh all the time for no apparent reason) and I laughed my head off standing in my pantry while holding the box of biscuits because I felt the need to read the list of ingredients to her, as well as how much sugar and how much cholesterol, etc. I also felt the need to keep insisting that Mix and Match Mama recommended it SO NONE OF THE ABOVE EVEN MATTERED. If Mix and Mama eats it, then EVERYONE can eat it and feel good about themselves.
We must have laughed for at least five minutes. That’s five minutes of laughing, no talking, me alone in my house in California, and she in her house in Texas.
🤷🏼♀️
Anyways, I am OBSESSED with these. I eat them for breakfast and sometimes as an after school snack, and I do NOT care about the calorie count.
I am a bit disappointed that when I went to Kohls the other day, and tried on short shorts, my legs did not look shapely or tan or non-jiggly, nor did a desire for working out suddenly appear in my psyche. I didn’t really think I would write a cookbook seeing as how I don’t exactly cook anything besides toast, but STILL.
So don’t get your hopes up and think extraordinary things are going to happen when you eat these. I’m putting that right there as a disclaimer. But DO get your hopes up on the fact that you will LOVE them.
PS I have never ordered them from Amazon (which is where the link goes). I can always find them at Target and Albertsons, and Stater’s Brothers.
2. The Second Thing I’m Obsessed With
My very first book on Audible! Which was FREE because it is my very first book on Audible! You get the first one FOR FREE.
Do you audible? Am I saying it right? I don’t even know that much about it except I’ve really been into Podcasts lately and now I feel as if I can’t get ready in the morning without listening to SOMETHING. And music isn’t doing it for me anymore.
I’m scared this means I’m turning into a person who can’t be still. And quiet.
Am I?
Finding podcasts are sometimes difficult for me. I don’t like all of them and I feel like they’re hard to find. My absolute favorite one is Bravo’s The Daily Dish. It’s on almost every Thursday and the hosts rehash that week’s reality shows (Vanderpump, the Housewives, Below Deck, Southern Charm, etc.) PLUS they have one-on-one interviews with cast members which means you get background knowledge and scoop and sneak peeks and stuff, and I’m starting to understand that I need serious help, but I’ll just eat an Almond Butter Biscuit and not worry about it.
Monday of this week, I went to my parents’ house for dinner for my niece, Ashley’s, birthday, and I wanted to listen to SOMETHING on the drive out there, but I couldn’t find a good podcast.
SO.
Before I left, I downloaded the Audible app and chose Daisy Jones and The Six as my first book.
YOU GUYS.
I am into it.
This is all I want to do now: LISTEN TO THIS BOOK AND EAT ALMOND BUTTER BISCUITS WHILST DOING SO.
I’m listening to it on my less- than-five-minute commute, out back with Murphie, in the morning when I’m getting ready . . . IT IS SO GOOD! I think I would love READING the book, too, because it is really entertaining. But LISTENING to the different actors (actual ACTORS are reading the book, it’s a full cast) is just something else entirely.
I read a few reviews and, apparently, I’m going to be doomed now because this is supposedly a REALLY WELL DONE Audible book.
Do you listen to books on Audible? If so, please leave some suggestions for my next book!
Here’s a disclaimer for this obsession: there are bad words in this book and so now . . . they’re out loud. So be prepared. It’s not excessive or anything, but sometimes, I’m like . . . WHOA. Because it’s OUT LOUD. In my car. Or in my bathroom.
Oh, and it’s FICTION, although it seems completely REAL and like an ACTUAL documentary on VHI Behind the Scenes.
OBSESSED.
So there you have it.
Two Things I’m Obsessed With this week.
🙂
How about you???

Those biscuits are SO good! Here’s another rec: Belvita blueberry oatmeal biscuits (they have protein and are cake-like) with a shmear of Justin’s vanilla almond butter. Delicious!
Hang in there! We have 23 days left, and it has been an intense few months.

Kristin,
I totally agree. I get the 30 pouch box at Costco. I told my husband they are my “breakfast bars” that I take to work and have with my morning coffee ( I and SLP for a public school district). But i also pack an extra one (or two) for that late afternoon treat to help me make it until I get off from work. They are super yummy. My other breakfast “treat” are the Belvita Cinnamon and Brown Sugar Cookies…… I mean Biscuits…hee her. They are sooo good, but don’t eat them if you are working on your computer… they get a little crumbly. Funny thing though, neither one has mede me look like the Mix and Match Mama.
Hope you have a great week

Hi Kristin ,
I’ve been into podcasts lately as well. I agree it’s hard to find good ones! Two I have enjoyed are Dirty John which is a true story about a man who takes advantage of a kind hearted woman and the other is an on going series called Stuff you should Know. I also feel that end of the year to do list to growing out of control!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
