We had rain today.
Gobs of it.
It’s still raining right now. We had an okay day . . . even though we were trapped inside staring at each other’s faces all day long, and didn’t get a break from one another, and got on his nerves one minute, and then her last nerve the next, and then my hair fell out in clumps, but other than that, we survived.
We also had a snowball fight. You know, because it’s almost winter and it was raining in California so it called for it.
I am pretty sure everyone knows how to have a snowball fight in an academic way, but just in case . . . We had a snowball fight with our high frequency words. I passed out some paper and my kids chose one of eight high frequency words to write down. Then they crumpled it up and we threw the “snowballs” as hard as we could at one another.
Just kidding.
I actually really controlled it this time.
I let one table at a time have a snowball fight. Then I would yell Stop or Enough or Cut It Out Already That Hurt! and the kids would have to uncrumple, unrumple, unfold their snowball and read it out loud to all of us.
We had a wonderful time.
Anywho . . . now I’m all warm and cozy at home and the hubby is making spaghetti . . . and I’m about to pour a glass of red wine. Because it’s raining.
And it’s Thursday.
And it’s night time.
And I have a glass and a bottle so why not is what I always say.
I also sent home our Winter Trees on Monday. I blogged about this somewhere, but since I am terrible about labeling my posts, I cannot find it. And I have looked. Which resulted in a nice walk down memory lane and a delay in getting this post posted.
So anywho, our team sends home a Family Tree Project. It comes from my friends, Christina and Susan. It looks like this:

Oh my gosh! This is such a cute idea! I can't wait to try this in a few weeks.

I love snowball, we play it once in a while and it is always a hit. However this year I doubt we will play it due to the large amount of naughties I was so lucky to be assigned. Thanks for the tree idea, it is very cute and looks fun.

Your creativity just astounds me!! Such a cute idea! I also love the "snowball fight" with HFW. Going to give that a try now that we have some colder weather! ๐

Definitely thinking I am going to have to try out both of these ideas because unlike poor Jill, I was dealt more than my share of naughties last year and I think the universe of something felt bad for me and gave me a really sweet group this year. Or maybe it was the coffee and cookies I gave to the Kindergarten teachers last spring….j/k. Anyway, I love all your ideas and am totally inspired and entertained by you. I've been following your blog for awhile and finally took the plunge and entered blog-land myself. So I thought I better stop creeping around in the shadows. Anyway, thanks again for keeping me inspired! KinderCoaster

Hi Kristin,
What a great idea! And of course, I mean the spaghetti and red wine. It's Friday evening here in Australia – that means it's time for a drink and dinner by the beach. ๐

Cute Kristin! I love the trees. I was cleaning out my garage in the rain brake between 3 and 7, and then it started to rain again… pouring rain on all our stuff!!! Curse you, Southern California!!!

A sight word snowball fight- how fun! I wonder what my principal would think if she walked in on that (ha! Ha!). My students would sure love it! I've never done a family decorating project. Maybe I'll give this one a try. Thanks for sharing the letter and pattern.

Perfect timing Kristin! I was just trying to think of something to send home as a family project for December! And I love that it is inclusive for my little JW kiddo too!

It cracks me up when schools cancel recess for rain. I live in the great NW and if we canceled recess every time it rained, we'd never go outside! I'm totally jealous of your nine day Thanksgiving break. We get Wednesday off which is better than nothing I guess.

Thanks for the idea, I read it late, but I will totally remember it for next year (really I will!). Why did I not see this post before the week before Christmas? Oh that is right, I was in the vacation mindset. . . Happy Holidays to you!
