Happy Saturday!
Happy Weekend!
I slept for about ten hours last night. You might say eleven if you count the hour that I was asleep on the couch. The first week back at school after winter vacation is exhausting, you know.
Thank goodness we’re off Monday in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.
I made up a new snack.
It is delicious.
According to Steve, I am not packing enough in my lunches because I come home every day and stand in the pantry for about ten minutes while I try to figure out what to eat before dinner. I usually pick nothing and make a cup of coffee instead.
But on this particular day, I decided to try graham crackers (that had expired) and Nutella.
Expired graham crackers dipped in Nutella do not taste expired, by the way. They taste delicious.
I only let myself have two crackers. Which, in all actuality, is really 16 rectangles.
I may have also dipped some pretzels in it.
As I said in my last post, I’m not doing Whole 30 the right way. Maybe I should have eaten thirty graham cracker rectangles . . .
AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!
Look at how the little girl on the right is sitting.
I could probably do that if I stretched a little.
And if I was made of rubber.
iPads in the classroom! These girls were using the Butterfly Math app that I found through this post on Heidi Songs. It is free and the kids love it! They have to “catch” butterflies and drag them into the net to solve. There are three levels. The first level gives them an addition equation, the second level has a missing addend, and the third level only gives the sum.
It is AWESOME.
My kids are using two minute sand timers to take turns . . . and, so far, it’s working really well and there hasn’t been any arguing of any kind. REALLY.
I’m not blowing smoke.
Every year, my mom buys my class a Christmas present. It is usually something for Fun Friday. This was our present this year. We opened it together on Monday to oohs and aahs and I can’t wait for Fun Fridays!
My kids have to use play-doh on cookie sheets (that I got from the Dollar Store) which means that every Fun Friday, the play-doh center usually turns into a catering business, a bakery, a restaurant kitchen, or a school for chefs. They make desserts and pancakes and all manner of things for me to eat and I have to pretend to eat their concoctions and/or agree to the fact that I am having a party and I need one-hundred cookies stat.
On Friday, the only thing my kids could talk about was how they couldn’t wait to play with cupcake play-doh and the iPads for Fun Friday. Right before it started, I got a phone call that one of my girls was leaving early and when I told her, the rest of the class shouted OH NO! You’re gonna miss cupcake play-doh and iPads!
Something tells me she had more fun at Disneyland . . .
Don’t these look good enough to eat? I had to keep telling the kids not to eat them. Especially when some gatorade was accidentally spilled and made the play-doh smell delicious.
DO NOT EAT THEM. EVEN A LITTLE BIT, I said.
We learned about ABC order this week and I’m going to tell you more about it tomorrow, as well as give you a Freebie.
My kids are experts now.
If I do say so myself.
I was asked about my office recently and if there had been any updates.
Steve extended the desk on both sides so I have more surface area. It is MASSIVE now, but I love it. I have lots of room to work and I love that everything is in this one room. I “moved in” over break and now all of my stuff is in here. I don’t have to go searching in a linen closet, my closet, a junk drawer downstairs, an armoire, or Steve’s office for my stuff. And I don’t have to sit at the top of the stairs by the printer, either.
It is amazing.
It is definitely my happy place. When I got up this morning, I made a cup of coffee, came in here, sat in one of the gray chairs, and watched Parenthood.
Another view.
And now . . . for the unfinished side of the room:
Yep.
I have all of my stuff in all of the cabinets and the drawers. But Steve said he would paint the lower cabinets and build a countertop that goes all the way across. He also said he would put under-cabinet lighting in there for me.
He just happens to be really busy with his real job and is on a deadline. So I’m trying not to bother him too much.
Anyways, that unfinished space doesn’t really bother me because I usually sit at the desk and that means my back is to it and I can’t see it.
๐
I have yet to hang anything on the walls.
I am afraid.
I need a decorator.
Or I need to get inspired.
Or I need to stop watching TV and get busy.
Shoulder shrug.
How was your week?
Dalynn Holling says
I are graham crackers and Nutella as a desperate snack this week too! It may have even been while watching the bachelor. But I had less self control and ate at least three. With gobs of Nutella. Cute office!
Dalynn Holling says
I are?! Oh boy.. I ate.

The unfinished part could be turned into a coffee bar! Great office and the gray chairs are too adorable.

Oh, I like your kind of Whole 30! Also, I can't imagine sitting like the little girl on the right. What? How does she do that?
Your office is amazing. The white is wonderful–so wonderful that it makes me want to paint my black office furniture white but that would be a big task. Ask Steve!

I have office envy! It looks so clean and pretty. My office space is a hot mess (and spread out all over the house). I'm jealous.

Holy monkey! Where is that desk from? Love it!!
Mrs. B. says
Try some marshmallow fluff with your nutella & grahams. My boys call them "raw smores".
sspeller says
We do that too! My kids think it is delicious!!!!

I just can't buy Nutella. I'd eat way, way, way too much of it. It's better if I just don't bring it home with me. Your office is gorgeous. I may have an office some day when my children move out, but I'm not in a hurry for THAT to happen.

I looooove your office! I had never tried Nutella until a few months back a friend gave me some and OMGoodness it is good!
I read an article a few weeks back concerning kids who sit "W" style. It's an interesting read. http://www.earlyinterventionsupport.com/w-sitting-in-children/

I love your new office! I even showed the hubby the picture and said "we can do that". . he said uh huh, but I know he doesn't mean it. . sigh. . .so I guess I am really JEALOUS of you now! (and isn't that what it is all about??? that is what my sisters used to say ๐ )
Shannon Porter says
I'm also jealous of you! I said wow when I saw your office and my husband wanted to know what I found so intriguing. I showed him and told him your husband built it for you. He just laughed. Something tells me I am not getting an office like yours. ๐ I love him anyway.

You know, when I was in school I NEVER got to make play-doh cupcakes. I do remember making a play-doh dinosaur once. Maybe I squandered my only opportunity!
I love your office. It's the same colors as our bedroom! ๐

I love Fun Friday, thank you so much for the idea. Would you share what color and brand the paint is in your office? Thanks
