Oops.
Time flies when you’re trying to eek out every last second of your three week vacation. I posted my Year in Review on a Thursday and then thought it was kind of redundant to post a Five for Fraturday last week . . . and then yesterday was one of those days where I was wondering what day it actually was, and if I’d washed my hair recently . . . and then when I looked it up on the calendar and saw that it was SATURDAY, the last Saturday before I returned to school, I just decided to hide under a blanket on the couch.
So here we are today.
The day before school resumes.
And I am here to tell you all that I love my job. My school. My kids. My families. My teammates. The teaching. All of it.
But I also love doing absolutely nothing just as much, if not more.
Which brings us to what will most likely be the most boring Five for Frat – I mean, Sunday, on the face of the planet.
But when your twin texts you to ask why you didn’t blog this week, and includes the emoji with the sad face and that one silent tear running down (and she knows everything because we talk all the time), you feel pressured to blog.
M’kay?
This will be a mixture of the last two weeks.
When Kerry and Madison were here for Christmas, they stayed at my parent’s house. So I did, too. My parents only live about 30 miles away, but the traffic and the road construction makes it at least an hour drive, at least, and that’s just one way, which means the driving back and forth for six days in a row was not worth it, and Steve told me to just stay with my parents, too.
Which I did.
Happily.
On this particular morning, it was raining, so my mom built me a fire in the fireplace. She practically went out and chopped the wood, too. And then she scooted the chair and the ottoman closer to the fire so I could be all cozy in the chair with my cup of coffee and my laptop.
This is why I enjoy staying at my parent’s house.
They spoil me rotten.
I had a very relaxing, wonderful, quiet, cozy week with my family! 🙂
My fourteen year old niece, Madison, introduced all of us old folk to Snapchat. And I already knew what Snapchat was, but I never really did anything about it.
Not really.
Once she got going, we all got into it, and all I can say is we laughed until we cried.
Madison didn’t quite understand it. She kept saying it wasn’t all that funny.
BUT. IT. WAS.
I seriously thought I might pee my pants.
It was also a great ab workout.
And that’s all I’ll probably ever do with Snapchat.
Oh, by the way, the filters that have voice change thingamajigs make me laugh the hardest. 🙂
Just click {HERE} or on the picture to watch the ridiculousness of my niece and I being deer.
Dear as deer can be.
🙂
I’m still addicted to Gilmore Girls.
I got Steve addicted, too.
I should be ashamed of myself when I tell you that I am on season six.
And I kind of am.
But not really.
Because I’ve cleaned out my closet and a drawer and another drawer and I wrote thank you notes (30 of them!!) and I wrapped presents and I went to three movies and out to dinner a couple of times and I took down Christmas and and and . . . and I hurt my neck (I slept wrong – it was not due to all of my couch time) and so I couldn’t really do anything (ANYTHING!!) for a few days and . . .
Well.
Any who.
I’m in love with this show.
I haven’t loved a show this much since Parenthood.
And now This Is Us.
Steve couldn’t get past all of the fast-talking-on-and-on and-on-monologues that occur quite often . . . but then he did. And now he’s a die hard fan.
I’ve decided he’s my Luke.
Because he’s grumpy and he cooks and he yells, and he’s super handy, and all he really wants is for me to be happy. And you can count on him. So if you need help, he’s going to come and do it, even if he’s complaining about it the whole time.
And I sort of relate to Rory (not in age, obviously) because she’s all nerdy (although I don’t read books by Russian authors and I didn’t go to an Ivy League school) and I sort of relate to Loralai because of all the junk food she eats (they both do) and how fast and how much she talks.
🙂
See?
I worked a little, too!
I finished up my Reader’s Theater for Beginning Blends!!!
YES!
I did most of this in front of the fire.
And I have all of these printed and ready to go for a couple of my small groups when we return this week.
And that, my friends, is called a PLAN.
A LESSON PLAN.
So we can say that I also did a lot of planning while on break, as well.
Oh and lookie here!
I worked AGAIN.
I have had several requests to make a Listen and Learn sight word pack so I finally gave in and did. Because my own little kiddos can use it, too!
I took the Pre-Primer words from the Dolch sight word list and put four on each page. There are 10 activities and they each last anywhere from 14-17 minutes. Students have to LISTEN (which is hard for a lot of them!) and follow directions because I tell them the colors to use for each letter that we color in each sight word. We practice spelling it, saying it, I use it in several sentences . . . we use funny voices, such as cowboy voices, robot voices, mad voices, sad voices, singing, etc. to make it fun and memorable. I guide students through the whole lesson to ensure success!
It’s offered in three different formats in case you don’t have wi/fi at your school or if certain websites are blocked at your school, and the QR codes won’t work for you. You can download the MP3 files directly onto your devices (some teachers have told me they are using the MP3 files to make CDs for the recordings) or you can use the PowerPoint slides with Audio on anything that has PowerPoint loaded. So you could even just set it up on your computer.
I’ve been getting asked if I’ll be making a Sight Word Bundle of Listen and Learn packs and I don’t know if I will. But if I do end up doing that, I lowered the price on this set so that you’re already getting the discount (if it were to ever be in a bundle). I hope that makes sense!!
All right.
You are caught up on my life.
A little bit of work.
A good amount of family time.
A lot of Gilmore Girls.
I go back to reality tomorrow.
And, just for fun, there is a 100% chance of rain tomorrow, too.
Isn’t that fun?
Aren’t I so lucky?
I’ll get to be with my kids ALL THE LIVELONG DAY.
I mean.
I did miss them.
So there’s that.
🙂

You are so lucky you had three weeks off. I had PD on Tuesday and the kids came Wednesday-Friday. We had snow, single freezing temps, so indoor recess, two birthdays with cupcakes. I was as worn out Friday as if it had been a full week! Good luck tomorrow!?

I am glad that you enjoyed your break! I enjoyed mine and spent a lot of it reading books recommended by YOU!! I started with A Hundred Summers and kept going…..needless to say my house is not as clean and organized as it should be after being home for 2 weeks! My youngest daughter got Gilmore Girls DVDs for Christmas and my eldest got Dawson’s Creek – so a lot of monologues being listened to over here. LOVE your Reader’s Theatre…getting the winter ones out next week!
