I saw The Hunger Games last night.
People, I loved it. LOVED IT!!!!!!
I went with some teacher friends, and we got in line for the 4:45 showing. Don’t worry. It was a short line. One of my former students was in the line. We’ll call him . . . Dennis. As in Menace. And now he’s taller than me. I think he’s a freshman. Or a sophomore now. He looked like he’d seen a ghost. He froze when I said hi to him. It might be because not only did I remember his first name, I remembered his last name, and so I said both together. “Hi, First Name, Last Name.” Then, because I am evil and have a great memory, I said, “First Name, Last Name, I’d better not hear any talking from you during this movie.” Because that is ALL HE DID during first grade. (I also remember a lot of spittle on the sides of his mouth. Perpetual spittle. It bothered me. You’ll be glad to know that went away.)
Well, while we were standing in the little line (I think we were fifth in line), one of my other teacher friends came OUT OF A DIFFERENT THEATER to use the restroom. And she said, “There’s no one in our theater and it starts in ten minutes. Come over there.” We knew a couple of the girls were going to the earlier showing, but we didn’t want to risk the line. And sitting down in front. And hurting our necks.
I was ready to just run in there (I may have actually done that), but I was at the movies with some goody-two-shoes, and they felt that they needed to go see if we could exchange our tickets. So we did. Legally. (Some people did NOT.) Not only did I see The Hunger Games, I saw it thirty minutes earlier than planned.
That’s what I call a VERY GOOD DAY.
No Dennis the Menace in our theater. But lots of LITTLE KIDS. What were their parents thinking?????
After the movie, we went out to eat. And we made a toast and clinked our various glasses of alcohol (wine for me!). Because not only did we see The Hunger Games, we are OFFICIALLY ON OUR TWO WEEK SPRING BREAK!
It gets even better.
Don’t hate me or unfollow me.
I am going back to see The Hunger Games tonight. After church. With the hubs and his aunt and uncle. I CAN’T WAIT! I am literally giddy.
Dave Ramsey (from my Financial Class) would not agree with the amount of money I am spending on movies.
However, I can’t help it. I am avoiding him at all costs.
Have you seen it yet? Did you like it???
I remember seeing the first Twilight (as if it were yesterday) and being very disappointed with the acting and the special effects. I didn’t feel like it lived up to the book. I do think each movie has gotten better as each one has been released.
This is a whole ‘nother ballgame. A ballgame where your favorite team is playing in the World Series and they win. Go Dodgers!
This post has nothing to do with school or reality TV. I’m trying to think of something to throw in, but I can’t. I’m on vacation. It is THE BEST feeling!
Seriously, don’t hate me. Or unfollow me.
May the odds be ever in your favor!
I saw it last night, and loved it too! Definitely lived up to my expectations. I wasn't crazy about the actor who portrayed Peeta, but the rest of them were just as I imagined. I felt like it followed the book very closely, leaving out/changing very few details. My hubby wants to go see it, so I'm sure I will see it for the 2nd time sometime this week ๐
Can't wait for number 2!
Have fun on your spring break! T-minus 4 days till mine…

I really want to see it so I can see what all the hype is about, but I have not read any of the books so I don't know anything about it at all. (I honestly don't even think I've seen previews for it- where have I been??) But I want to see it because I hear it is supposed to be amazing…which I think you just affirmed. Happy Spring Break! We just started ours too.
I have not seen the movie or read the book (books?). Bad, right? But I LOVE the Dodgers! So, now am I back in your good graces? The colors for my wedding were Dodger blue and white. Now I am really, really in your good graces?

Do you think I should still see it if I haven't read the books or know nothing about it? It sounds interesting, but I honestly would be going in with no background knowledge!
I am on SpringBreak, too! Only mine is just a week..I should totally unfollow you in protest! (not!! lol))

I am your newest follower ๐ (I did the opposite of what u said) so glad I found you, what a wonderful post! I am in the middle of the second book, and if I had more time, id probably be done with the third! I am seeing the movie tomorrow afternoon with my coworker so excited!!
http://lovetoteach123.blogspot.com
I went to the midnight showing! I just couldn't wait. I was a zombie Friday at school but it was worth it! The movie was fantastic but I thought there was little character development and some events would be confusing to people who haven't read the book. I was on the edge of my seat the entire movie! I want to see it again too!
HUNGER GAMES WAS SO AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! I.loved.every.second.
I heart you!!!!
P.S. 2 more weeks until I get to see you. In real life. For real.
I can't wait to see The Hunger Games. Loved all of the books! Enjoy your vacation..mine is almost over! ๐

Ok….I'm gonna lose freinds on this one…..I haven't read the books yet….just ordered them so will be reading them soon and if they are anything like everyone says…I'll be done in days:) Not sure if I'll go see the movie….the last Twilight movie really disappointed me….I hate when the books are fab and the movie, not so much……I don't know….I'll see but have to read it first:)
Now, 2, TWO, 2, TWOOOOOOOOOOO weeks vaca?!?!?!?!
Wow!!!! Little jealous!!! Okay, alot!! Enjoy your time with PJ!!
4th Grade Frolics
We went to the midnight showing and all three showings were sold out!! The theatre was JAM PACKED!! It was a lively crowd which made it even MORE AMAZING!! I know that there were lots of little details {that kind of added up to some big stuff} left out but I do believe that they did an AMAZINGLY SPECTACULAR job with this movie!! Can't wait till Husband comes home this week so I can go see it AGAIN!! {Totally agree with you about Twilight & how on earth do you get TWO WEEKS for Spring Break???!!!}
I'm always a day late and a dollar short – a few months after Twilight came out I decided to break down and buy the first book. Read that thick amazing wondering thing in days…moved on to the 2nd, 3rd…
I downloaded the preview of The Hunger Games on my Kindle and I wasn't so sure…but maybe I just need to do it?!?

P.S. Happy spring break…happy for ya! ENJOY! ๐
I thought it was completely fabulous! I felt the same way about Twilight! HG didn't let me down what so ever. When I went yesterday it was straight up packed. I'm glad I got there early!
Adventures of a Third Grade Teacher
O.M.G. I went to the movie this afternoon with my husband. I wanted to go to the midnight showing, but I am not a morning person, and so I probably would have been the worst person ever the next day if I had gone. At any rate, I went this afternoon at 2:20, and it was CROWDED out the whazoo. Loved it though! I wasn't crazy about the casting for Peeta at first, but he grew on me. Okay, and I admit that I cried when Rue died, even though I knew she would. And I may have jumped out of my seat and almost hugged a complete stranger next to me when the muttations were chasing Peeta and Katniss. It was okay though, because she almost jumped into my lap too. I made a new friend! Ha. Can't wait to see it again too!
please don't hate or unfollow me but I haven't read it yet not a bit. YIKES! I may see the movie before I ever read it. I had time. I had it in my cart online and in a store…then dave ramsey made me put it back.
He's so bossy and demanding and he doesn't ever get invited to go shopping with me because he is NO FUN.
So glad you are shelling out the $$ and having a blast on your break!
Saw it last night and LOVED it!!! LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it! We saw the late, late, late show and my husband and I were the oldest there by at least 10 years … sigh … but at least everybody shut up when the movie started – well, for the most part. My husband was worried I was going to pull out my teacher voice and shusshhh everybody in there (thereby embarrassing him … which would have been fun, come to think of it).
I'm going again next week with some of my coworkers … did I mention I LOVED it???

I'm with Reagan and a bit embarrassed to admit this, but I haven't read it yet!! Maybe if I could drag my youknowwhat off the internet once in awhile to read again like I used to! Happy spring break Kristin!!!
Wellllllll ….. it simply sounds like you are having fun.

2 weeks.. are you kidding me??? We had Spring Break a week ago- and boy does it feel like eternity! Sheez.. come on Easter Break. We get Friday and Monday off for it.
I have not read the Hunger Games- so I won't see the movie. I also never read or saw the Twilight movies or books either. What's wrong with me? I am a reader and movie lover??. But, I could never catch on to the craziness!

I loved it too. The scenery was exactly as I had pictured it. I wasn't a fan of Peeta at the beginning, but he did grow on me. I thought Gale was great.
Pam@Kindergarten Night Owls
I saw the movie too!!! It was so good…my husband went with me without reading the first book, today he started the second book (which I am annoyed with…who doesn't start with the first book) and he just finished it! Now he is ahead of me!
2 week spring break???!?!??! lucky!

Ok, so I still haven't read it. My brother did and he said #1 was was super, #2 was eh and #3 was boo. So I haven't been able to motivate myself. But I think I will (I am the one who bought the books for him, after all, so I do have copies accessible) and then I'll watch it.
Also, yay for 2 weeks of spring break cause that's ah-mazing, and boo for me not being on week 2 of spring break. I am still drinking wine, though, because that 's what I do regardless of break or no. As a matter of fact, I probably drink more wine when we're in session than when we're not. I know you know why.

Now I really need to see the movie!!! I am always worried that the movie will ruin my love that I had for the book (like twilight), but I am happy to hear that this one was great.
I just finished my two week vacation, so I am not terribly jealous yet….

Two whole weeks…so jealous! It's report card and parent teacher week for me so be thinking of me while you are relaxing! Boy…I can not WAIT until Easter. It was 28C yesterday and calling for snow next week…that's March in Canada for ya!
I went last night with my daughter and LOVE LOVE LOVED it! I have to admit though, I have not read the books. You can bet though..I'll be cracking book #2 as soon as report cards at PTI are done!
I know I'm a little late, but I bought The Hunger Games book today so I can read it and THEN see the movie! And I completely agree with you about Twilight… a let down!!

1. I am on page 47 of the first book. I have had it since Chick-a-dee was in the hospital over winter break, just started last week- thought I would read faster- didn't- but I am enjoying it so far. Will see the movie afterwards.
2. Fell in love with Twilight Saga- found out Kristen Stewart was Bella…my heart broke- she ruined the movie for me.
3. TWO WEEKS!?!?!?!?!? I won't unfollow you (until next Sunday….because then my ONE WEEK vacay will be over)
Just kidding!

Yay for a 2 week va-cay! I'm at a year-round school, and I'm just finishing a 3 week break (going back on Monday!)
Definitely don't mention the price to Dave Ramsey! He wouldn't see that as "gazelle-like intensity!" ๐

Hello Mrs Sykes
Love your blog thanks for sharing I've given you an award!

I saw the movie on Friday and LOVED it! Dave Ramsey would be proud. I saved money by sharing a large drink with hubs AND getting a free refill!

I am a new follower and first time blogger. I haven't seen The Hunger Games but I guess I will have to so I can find out what everyone is talking about.

Wow, what a score. Hunger Games twice and a two-week vacation! We saw the movie Friday night in IMAX. It was awesome! My dd had inspired me to read the books and since I knew the movie was coming out, I started them a few weeks ago. Then I couldn't put them down. I keep finding myself analysing the movie and trying to think was it would be like if I didn't know…
Enjoy tonight. I'm sure you'll notice things you never saw the first time. I kept catching myself wanting to pause and hit the rewind to see what I missed (Tivo brain).
I LOVED The Hunger Games. I think you had to read the book to love it that much though. They didn't do a lot of characterization. So I filled in the blanks. I'm taking my hubs this week.

HAPPY SPRING BREAK!!!
Really? It was good?! First, you got me thinking about reading this series and now I will have to see the movie. Can I see the movie before reading the book?

2weeks! Wow hunger games- awesome, but I would have sat in the theatre for 4 hours just so they wouldn't cut parts out. The bread – I wanted the bread! I read the book twice, (all of them) cried both times, now I want see the movie again. And I am the last person to go to the movies! Enjoy your break!
I just love reading your blog posts… they always make me laugh out loud! I just got back from seeing "The Hunger Games". It was awesome! I had no intentions of seeing it, but there's been so much hype and my hubby mentioned he might want to see it so we went. Now I want to read the other books to see what's going to happen!
I haven't read the book yet. It's on my table to start over spring break but my husband a 6th grade teacher has read it and has not stopped talking about it. Saw the movie Saturday night and I can't wait to read the books now. He's started the second one and can't put it down. It was so exciting and kept me on the edge of my seat. Can't wait for the next ones.
I saw it last night too. Even got the hubs to go! Took our eldest who's also read them. Funny, the first thing he pointed out were differences. They annoy me too! Then as we left he "language!" haha! He's so good he makes up for the heathens we had at home! I loved it and already can't wait for the next one! sooooo goood!
I LOVED the movie too! I am going back this weekend to see it with my sister and I cannot WAIT! There were some parts I didn't think were as developed as they could've been, like how Katniss felt betrayed by Peeta when he was with the Careers, but I was very impressed.
I'm also SUPER jealous you have a TWO WEEK Spring Break. I have 2 weeks until mine, which is only one. But it will be here soon ๐

Living A Wonderful Life
You crack me up! ๐ I think I'm going to break down and see it. I've heard lots of good reviews. I don't usually go see the movies for the books I've read (including Twilight) but I might break the rule on this one. During the preview where she is screaming for them to take her instead I swear it's just as I pictured it! Maybe I'll make the hubby take me. hehe
As to your post above about the kids getting tired of the same ol same ol. I hear ya!! It's the same where I'm at. ๐
