I would say Happy Valentine’s Day, but it’s not really Valentine’s Day yet.
I know!! I know!!
I know it’s February 14!! I get it!
But our school can’t celebrate it until tomorrow. Because tomorrow is Friday and that’s considered an appropriate party day. Not a Thursday, for heaven’s sake! Who do you think we are? A school that abides by a calendar year or something?
Today was just a regular old day. Except that I had to take a half day and drive out to that far away land to see the dentist again. Is it just me or do I see the dentist way too much? Is it because the hubby’s aunt works there and they make me? And they bully me? And they are into my business way too much and so as soon as I walked in, they all (they all being the front office staff, the hygenists in the back, the dental assistants, and the actual dentist) asked if I’d had my gum graft yet??
Um, that would be a big fat no because I don’t want to have a gum graft.
Now I have an appointment because they called the periodontist for me and scheduled it. Even though I cried and carried on.
Today’s visit was just a regular cleaning.
But nothing goes for regular for me. So it was a cleaning and let’s see what else might be wrong with Kristin.
So, whilst I was getting my cleaning and trying to answer questions with dental equipment in my mouth, my hygenist discovered that one of my bottom teeth is moving.
And it shouldn’t be because I have a PERMANENT BOTTOM RETAINER. Which RETAINS my teeth in a PERMANENT POSITION.
But, oh no, not me. So tooth number twenty-two (little rascal) has pivoted (Friends reference, anyone?) and is no longer even touching the retainer.
Seriously. I mean, really. COME ON!
So guess what I’m doing the first Tuesday of my Spring Break?
1:00 Retainer Fix Up By Way Of The Dentist Who Said It Would Be A Pain In His Rectum (that’s a direct quote) But He Loves Me And He Is There For Me So He Will Do It.
2:00 Gum Graft Across The Street By Way Of The Periodontist Because They Are Making Me Even Though I Don’t Want To.
Joy.
To forget all about this drama, I’m trying to organize and focus my thoughts on Valentine’s Day tomorrow. Because today is not really Valentine’s Day here in these parts.
I know!
My room parents are in charge and we they came up with four centers.
1. Hadar’s Valentine Craft!

We celebrated on Thursday but only one sweet treat allowed!!! Our district is moving to only celebrating 3 parties a year. The biggest change NO candy or food of any kind allowed on kid's valentines. Teachers had to check all valentines before distribution!

We did your candy hearts today…so much fun! Luckily we still have freedom with holidays : ) Pivot + Ross is an all time fav. Have fun tomorrow !
Jill says
Wow! Your district takes fun sucking to a whole new level. I am very thankful we could celebrate today. I also have a permanent retainer and one of my teeth has moved, bRing on that gross glue and other yucky stuff.
Good luck.

Today's day definitely seemed like a Friday. So, in a way, I envy your tomorrow…cause there should be no such thing as school after Valentine's Day!

Um, did the gum graft thing.
Required 2 Valium.
And gas.
The dentist said I still made him nervous.
True story.
Haven't been back since.

We did Hadar's bear today, too. So cute.
The twister game… hilariously inappropriate. 😀
Parents didn't show for my party today… can you say cuh-razy!?!

Our school (grades 3-5) decided Valentine's isn't happening at all. No parties, no cards, and a faculty meeting after school. We might have snuck a treat that just happened to have red, pink, and white candy on it…and our Math lesson just happened to revolve around hearts for some reason. We did Farley's Pile It On Valentine's and then a candy heart graphing activity.

Well, now you've got me worried! I've literally had my permanent retainer in for over 20 years and I've just now noticed one of my teeth trying to do a little twist move. I've been trying to convince myself that it adds character to my smile, but maybe now they're going to want to fix mine, too! I just want to know why my tooth has decided to pull this stunt after all this time!!
Oh, and by the way, we were lucky enough to celebrate Valentine's Day all day today, and conduct parent-teacher conferences all night….I'm sure you're jealous….
KinderKapers says
We actually had Valentine's Day today…perhaps my best ever, except for the kid who kept his baggie of candy hearts in his his sweatpants because he didn't have a pocket.
On the other hand…if we learned sign language it might be easier to communicate with our dentists. Have a happy day tomorrow!

Permanent retainer….yes….straight teeth……no!!! Mine popped off one tooth several times, and that tooth shifted. My dentist never says anything about it and my orthodontist glued the retainer back on and left the tooth crooked. Gotta love it….

Wow, detailed dentistry and non-Valentines Day…
The things you learn in educational blog land.
Thank you for the hilarious (but not from your perspective, I think) post. Cheers!

The dentist always finds problems with my teeth too! Cavities, leftover adhesive from my braces, a potential root canal, etc, etc, etc. So annoying! I even floss every day too! Why is dentistry so torturous??!?!?!!!?!

Welllll, not to brag, or anything… but we had a half-day yesterday. And we are off today. 😀 Awesome! So it was Reading centers, party, PE, lunch, 30 minutes of "math" (which might have been "graph these conversation hearts", and GO HOME! What a great way to celebrate Valentine's Day at school!!
Mrs. Wheeler says
I'm sorry to hear about your teeth woes! If it makes you feel better, I am going to get braces for the third time soon! Dang moving teeth!
I need that Twister board! Asap!
Wish you were here!

Hmmmm, I've never heard of postponing a holiday until a Friday. We did our celebration on Thursday. I'm so jealous of your twister game, thanks for the link I have to have one for next year. I'm hosting a linky for people to share their Valentine's Day pictures, I'd love for you to link up this post or if you post pictures from your Friday celebration. Enjoy your loooong weekend.

We get three party days a month but we can give them all the sugar they want on those three days.
We did our party on Thursday and then had to come back and try to have regular school on Friday. That should be illegal. My kids were hyper beyond hyper. And we couldn't go outside because it was too cold. I think it probably worked to your favor to wait a day.
I've done the graft thing a couple of times. It's not terrible. Good luck!

Pardon my french…that's crap to celebrate a holiday after the holiday. I'm sure you could find some way to work in the Valentine twister into your CCSS??? Side note, LOVE the Kindergarten warm-up packet #2. So appropriate for independent practice right now! Thank you!!!!!!

We celebrate on Thursday, but I got smart this year and took off on Friday. Now next year I already have it written in my lesson plan book: Take off on V day-no seriously you won't remeber this next year that's why I made you write this down. Ha, ha. Do you think that is bad of me????
Kristy
p.s. We did have a good V day

I am jealous – we had a very subdued Valentine's Day. We were sooo lucky to have the state reps and CO reps come and visit our school on Thursday and Friday. Boo! I mean, who chooses to observe during the sugar high Thursday and subsequent sugar crash on Friday??? *sigh*
I was so mad, didn't even do a Valentine's Day post this year. Just went right on like nothing happened. Stared longingly at the math centers I created last year. Your crafts look super cute though – might have to pin them for next year when hopefully we'll have V-Day to ourselves! 🙂
