Happy Saturday!! 🙂 I got up kind of early today. I don’t know why.
I don’t think it has anything to do with me following asleep on the couch at 8:30 last night, waking up two hours later, and saying to Steve, “I’m tired. I think I’ll go to bed now.”
I just took this bulletin board down to prep it for Open House.
We wrote a narrative piece about that one time it rained this Spring and we missed all of our recesses and our shoes got wet.
It was riveting, let me tell you!
You might remember me saying that I have wanted that DJ Inkers cottage fence for years now. I have almost every single DJ Inkers bulletin board set, but for whatever reason, I never bought the cottage fence. Then they stopped selling it or caring about me, I’m not sure which. I’m sure I’ve blogged about it before and even sent out a plea asking for you to send me yours, if you had it.
Well, anyways, my teammate, Heather, gave me hers. She changed the theme of her bulletin boards and doesn’t use the DJ Inkers stuff anymore.
I think she’s trendy. And I think I’m stuck in my ways. I don’t know.
So I was super excited to use it for this bulletin board and I see myself using it again!
The bears are sold separately and you get to dress them up! Which is way better than Mother Bear because she has no clothes!!
If you haven’t read my post about Mother Bear, you might want to go back and read it.
Because you’ll laugh.
At me.
And I’m okay with that.
This is a picture from the post about Mother Bear.
For Open House, we are learning about life long ago. We’ve done this for several years now.
I’m starting to sound like I really am stuck in my ways, but I’m not. Really. I like to research new ideas, go to professional development trainings (although, if I’m being honest, my favorite part is the long lunch we get to have), keep up with new curriculum and what-not, etc. Really.
But, sometimes, things just work so you keep doing them in order to save your sanity and your full head of hair.
So anyways, on this particular day, we watched the first fifteen minutes of Little House on the Prairie, Season 1, Episode 2, titled Country Girls because it’s the first time Laura and Mary Ingalls go to school.
The kids were in awe! IN AWE! You could have heard a pin drop.
Well, until one kid said There’s no principal!
And another kid said It’s only one room!
And another kid said All the kids are mixed up!
I don’t know if it’s just my class, but we have the need to express our thoughts on the daily. On the minute. As soon as the thought enters our brain.
Anywho, I bought these little chalkboards from Oriental Trading Company a few years ago and I always pull them out after that episode so we can practice writing on slates. So fun! I will put these into a center next.
That’s Cherry Pomegranate Crystal Light flavored water.
It’s delicious and it helps me drink water. I’m not a water drinker. So this helps, whether it has artificial sweeteners or not. I don’t care so please don’t leave a comment and tell me I’m drinking poison. Pleaseandthankyou. 🙂
So anywho, when the kids came in after lunch, one of them asked me if I was drinking wine.
Say what?
Say who?
Me?
Um . . . no.
Not right now, anyway!
Maybe later! After school! When it’s appropriate!
But NO!
And don’t go home and tell your parents that Mrs. Oldham drinks wine at lunchtime, either, m’kay?
But all I said was, “No, you silly goose! It’s Cherry Pomegranate Crystal Light flavored water!”
You crazy kid!
😉
I saw this on Facebook when I was scrolling through the other night and thought it tied in nicely with the above wine story.
It cracked me up!
I sent it to my older sister because we both love wine.
And we drink it when it’s appropriate to do so.
So there.
My niece, Ashley, turns 21 today!
WHAT?!
She’s my oldest niece, the oldest grandchild in our family, the first.
She is so special to me and I love her to pieces!
Ashley was the first newborn baby I ever held. And when I say newborn, I mean she was probably five minutes old. They had cleaned her up and swaddled her up, and someone handed her to me, and I said Is she supposed to look like this?
Because honestly, she was . . . well . . . I mean . . . I could just see her face and it was wet. And shiny. And her eyelids looked to have vaseline on them or something.
I don’t know!!
I’m just saying.
That was my first experience with a newborn.
Now I know better.
I just stay away until the baby isn’t quite so newborn.
😉
Anyways, Ashley came home from Sonoma State for the weekend so we could celebrate her! I can’t wait to see her tonight and give her a big ole hug. 🙂
Have a happy weekend!

Hi Kristin,
I remember your Mother Bear post… so funny! The little things that just pass us by. Hope you don’t get too many notes on Monday inquiring about drinking wine over lunch. 😉 Oh the things kids think and say out loud… I LOVE LOVE LOVE your idea about watching Little House on the Prairie and then getting out the slates. So fun! I’ve seen every episode and most of them multiple times. I even wore my hair in 2 braids growing up. #littlehousenerd Hope you have a relaxing weekend!
Joya 🙂

I am so interested by your open house this time of year! Do you have one in the beginning of the year?
kristinoldham@yahoo.com says
We have a Parent Information Night at the beginning of the year which is very formal – we stand up and do all the talking about our program and what the parents can expect. Open House is always towards the end of the year and is just that — the door is open for a couple of hours and parents can come and tour the room and their child’s hard work. It’s super relaxed and fun, but a lot of prep work on our end! 😉

Lol at the wine story? I had a little kindergarten cutie shout out while we were lining up after lunch “Hey Mrs. Carrier are you drinking a beer?’ when she saw me with my green sparkling Pelligrino water . The noon duty aides and the other teachers all had a good laugh at my red face! ?

I went to SSU too! Loved it there. Went through the teaching program and now teaching first!
