Happy Happy Happy Saturday!
I am OFFICIALLY on Spring Break!!! 🙂
Look at my adorable new curtain!
My teammate – who also bakes for us and gives us treats at least once a week – made it for me! During lock down drills, I usually cover the window with construction paper. Recently, I got smart and started pulling my door poster over the window (it’s magnetic).
But then my teammate made each of us a curtain!
It does look see-through in this shot, but I promise you — you can’t see in if you’re trying to.
So . . . if we were to have a lock down, I would just untie the ribbon and be done.
That is, if I’m not looking for The Bucket.
😉
I love my new t-shirt!
I am now trying to figure out how to have t-shirts made JUST LIKE THIS, but instead of the state of Texas on it, it could have a big ole ONE on it. For first grade. But the number 1. Not the word. Or do I want the word? Or the word FIRST?
I don’t know.
But I love that it’s a baseball t-shirt. And that it’s maroon and gray (those were my high school colors when I lived in Oklahoma). And that it’s soft. And that it’s roomy.
I need t-shirts to be roomy, otherwise what’s the point of wearing a t-shirt?
I don’t have a picture for this one.
I went to a training this week. It’s all about how we can get all of our kids reading by the age of nine. And how it’s not a program, but a commitment.
And how important we primary teachers are because we are the FOUNDATION.
Which I get. Believe me. I get it.
And if you don’t think I want all of my kids reading by the age of it’s the last month of first grade, you’re heading to second, well, then, you’re crazy.
So to be told that I need to make a commitment to make sure my kids are reading by the age of nine is kind of hilarious.
But maybe some people needed to be reminded. It’s possible. I mean, we get busy. With TEACHING READING and all.
There were some points made and some tasks involved that might have put some people on the defensive. So the trainers made sure to tell us it was National Puppy Day. And any time anything was said that put pressure on us, or required us to do MORE than we already are, including something like THIS CAN BE YOUR SUMMER HOMEWORK, the trainers would say PUPPIES!
By the end of the training, saying Puppies started to seem like a bad word.
I’m just saying.
😉
Speaking of puppies . . .
I do not even know how this is Murphie!
Look at her!!!
Her ears are floppy and she’s so dark . . . I just want to reach into this picture and cuddle her up.
Those paws!
I love puppies.
Not just mine.
I really think the training would have been way better if they had brought in live puppies for us to hold while they told us that we have yet another thing to do.
So you know how I told you that I want/need/can’t wait any longer to start Guided Math?
And how I have the curriculum I am supposed to teach, and that I’m required to teach it, but that I don’t know what the other kids are going to be doing while I have a small group?
Well, I just got Reagan’s Big Bundle of Math Centers! I am definitely going to get some Math Tubs going. And I want to include her Math Journals! Reagan has a great blog post {HERE} about how to begin with Guided Math and I’m going to try to channel her.
When we get back from Spring Break, we only have 8 weeks left in the school year (GAH!!!), but I am determined to try Guided Math with this class before they leave me.
I will keep you posted!
Have a great rest of the weekend!
Such a cute puppy! Our puppy is pad trained but I’m attempting to train her to go outside. I definitely understand “something else to do!”

I’m wondering why I haven’t gotten ANY of your emails (_ since February 20)? I have to actually type in your web address to make sure you were still doing your thing! I miss all the updates. Was I supposed to do something and maybe I missed it?
Thanks!

I switched from Blogger to WordPress and I think that’s why!! I’m so sorry!
I was wondering the same thing! I even submitted my email again and still no emails.
Kristin, what math publisher do you currently use? I’ve also longingly looked at Reagan’s math bundle…it’s looking like I “may” get to stay at 1st grade for next year so I’ve got it on my wish list. We’re actually adopting another new math series, different from what we’ve been using for the last numerous years so here we go…again! Sorry about your “another something else to do…”
We use enVision — which I am required to use. So I don’t need Reagan’s guided math units so much as the “other stuff kids have to do while I’m teaching a small group”. 🙂 But I am so ready to try guided math!
Interesting!
We have been using GoMath for years and after piloting this year we (too) are going to be using enVision by Pearson. I wasn’t involved in the piloting…any thoughts you’d like to share about it?
Puppy dogs, homemade cute curtains, and baseball tees…. It’s all so adorable!!! Thanks for the guided math shout out. Can’t wait to hear the stories! (good and bad) ha ha ha!!!! 🙂
You crack me up! I feel that if I met you in person I would like you right away. Your colleagues are so lucky to have you on staff. Have a wonderful break!
You’re so sweet!!!! 🙂 I know I would like you right away, too!
I need that bucket. : )
How does the curtain stay in place? (I need one too.)
I love your curtain! Lock downs are the worst part of the job. At least a pretty ribbon will help.
