Description
Let’s Sort! {Letters, Numbers, Words, Sentences} is an engaging activity in which students distinguish between letters, numbers, words, and sentences.
How do you use Let’s Sort! {Letters, Numbers, Words, Sentences}?
These are designed to help students distinguish between letters, numbers, words, and sentences. You can use these cards in a variety of ways: Whole Group, Guided Reading, Centers, Word Work, Intervention, etc.
Here’s how I use them in my first grade class:
During whole group instruction, we use the cards as a sorting activity. I pass out one card to each child and students sort themselves into groups. We play this over and over! There are plenty of cards to mix it up each time.
The first time we played, I didn’t tell my students a sorting rule and it was amazing to see what they came up with. For example, four friends grouped themselves together because one had the number 2, one had the word cat, one had the word like, and one had the sentence I like the cat. They explained that one of them had 2 cats at home, and the sentence included the words like and cat. Students also had great conversations regarding the letters a and I and how they’re also words! We were definitely crossing the rigor divide. 🙂 My kids LOVE this activity. After that, I told them the sorting rule (letters, numbers, words, sentences). S
